Hi Lisa, great update! I think that Handicapped Pets sells the Walkin' Wheels brand of dog cart ( at least the one in this province does) This is the one that we were going to buy for Stevie, because she was able to stand and walk but was really wobbly, and didn't need a super duper version. We were going to buy an Eddies if she reamined totally paralysed - they are very well made. My husband ended up building her a cart - he is an awesome metal worker! Eddie's wheels make awesome and highly recommended carts, Ruff Rollin' makes great carts too. The one we rented for Stevie for her initial rehab was a Doggon Wheels brand - it worked well but the back axel stuck out oddly for her and seemed to bang into stuff alot. Check through the updates section - you may find recommendations for certain brands. Keep us posted with Stoney stories

This is just my opinion, when looking for a wheelchair, if need be wait and save up a bit more if necessary and choose an Eddies if it will fit in the budget at all. The wheelchair is used everyday and it should a snap for you to get him in and out of and lightweight for Stoney to use. Clark has used the same Eddie's wheelchair since 2007 and it looks practically new even after being taken through mud puddles and over branches. Consider carefully a chair's features. www.dodgerslist.com/links/cart.htmeddieswheels.com/testimonials/2897/People are not necessarily mean when giving their opinion about Stoney. They are basing their thinking on their own obviously limited knowledge. You have an absolutely wonderful opportunity to teach! So this is what I do. When out and about I have Dodgerlist cards on me to hand out. The first thing I say to a "awe poor dog" type of reaction is a list of what Clark does and that just like for people the wheelchair for dogs is a fantastic invention!!! Clark is faster than a speeding bullet to the kitchen at meal times, loves to lie in the grass enjoying a chew treat, gives the best welcome back kisses when I return home, barks and chases the cat, loves to sniff all the wonderful smells on the wooded pathways. Clark is a dog and LOVES living to the fullest!!!! Order some free cards from Linda: www.dodgerslist.com/literature/litorder.htmThe ability to just stand is a reflex action. That in itself is good as you can work with him to move the length of time from just a few seconds to minutes over time. What you want to look for is does he attempt to move up into a standing position..that would should brain involved decision. There is good potential for the nerves going to the legs to repair since he already can control his bladder…he can sniff and pee!!
1. Deep Pain Sensation (Only correctly identified by a specialist.) 2. Tail wagging with joy at seeing you or getting a treat or meal. 3. Bladder and bowel control verified with the "sniff and pee" test. 4. Leg Movement, and then ability to move up into a standing position, and then wobbly walking. 5. Being able to walk with more steadiness and properly place the feet. 6. Ability to walk unassisted and perhaps even run.

Just a quick update on Stoney about a month ago my husband took him outside in the morning and when he came in to feed him he was walking towards my bedroom with his tail wagging a million miles an hour! I could not believe it!! He gets up and walks (sometimes like a drunk man!) but he does it he has to be gated ib the living room or else everytime I am in the kitchen he insists on being there...when he walks he sways a bit abd after a while he does sit down, but I honesty could not believe it...He has so much determination !!! I still carry him outside and set him down in the yard but he is really trying!

How wonderful! You must be so thrilled. This is a perfect example of how we can never give up hope. Sometimes it can take a long time for those nerves to rejuvenate. I'm very happy for Stoney! Thanks for sharing this fabulous news with us.
Prayers for continued improvement for Stoney.

Lisa, that is great update! I was thinking about Stoney yesterday and wondering how he was doing Don't forget that along with Stoney's determination was YOUR determination - to keep trying, to learn, and to not give up on your boy! Congratulations to all of you!!

Hi
I have a question , so Stoney gets up and walks around but sometimes in the process he drips urine , no sure if it is because his back legs are a bit unwoblly or what..He goes to the bathroom outside but he keeps dripping little bits of pee while he is walking...COuld I put diaper on while in house so he can walk around?

Hi Paula
I think it is because his legs are not completely sturdy in the back and when he walks they are far apart and that is how the pee is dripping...when he goes outside he squats and is able to pee on his own..he walks but it is not a normal walk bur i gove him so much credit he gets up and goes!

Hi Lisa!
It still would be a good idea to have his urine tested for a UTI. If he does have a urinary tract infection, it needs to be treated so it doesn't get out of control and turn into a bladder or kidney infection..
So glad he is doing well otherwise and walking, even though wobbly.. He's gotten so much better over the months! Thanks not only to his determination but yours too!
