Discovered Perry has a little redness on his inner thighs on his back legs.
I think he's still not strong in his back legs and maybe isn't peeing straight.
Have been treating with aquafor cream and it's looking better.
Also, it's funny. He and Nala have never been close. She was 8 when I got him and was pretty jealous.
But since he's been down with IVDD she's much nicer to him.
It's like she understands what he's going through!

Hi Julie,
I have no doubt at all that Nala understands that Perry is going through what she has been through. I hope that they will grow closer in time..This should bring out the 'big sister' in her..

Was wondering about possibly using a male wrap for Perry when I'm home?
Occasionally he makes it to the pee pad but it's often a long trail of puddles.
Luckily I have tile and linoleum!
Is there anything other than time I can do?
Would like to do more laser therapy but I'm still paying off the medical bills.
Anyway, not to sound ungrateful. Perry's doing great overall.
No pain, walking well, and a happy boy!!

I do use the belly wraps. Spike stays dry all night usually, and does not wear one. During the day it is inconsistent. It just makes it easier for all of us. I ordered his rear chair and it will be here tomorrow. Like you I have spent so much money on him...we want to see what we can do on our own. The wraps have Velcro and are very convenient. I wash them with detergent and vinegar and we let them dry in the Arizona sun. They are very clean. Oh just an FYI, do not feed your dog kale. We had some the other night, so I let him try it. He love it, but the result the next day was horrible. We had poop everywhere. Just an FYI

Perry's doing very well with walking and running! He thinks he can still do everything. He's improving about not jumping on me when he gets excited as I know that's not good for his back. I ignore him when he jumps. No attention. His bladder control is about 50/50. Meaning he generally makes it to the potty pads about half the time. This is actually an improvement as before it was just lots of dribble trails. Lol!! Perry is living proof conservative crate rest works!

Perry continues to do well. Some dribbling but is making it to the potty pads more often!
However I keep having problems with dribbling in my bed if he's excited or sleeping.
Today I had completely remade the bed and oops Mr. Dribble!
So I'm going to order some make wraps and keep them on the bedside table. New house rule, in bed means male wrap.
But I'm still really happy that he's running, walking, and wagging his tail!!
Every thing else is doable.😀

Julie,
You have a wonderful attitude and are such a great caregiver to Perry and Nala!
Has Perry had a urinalysis lately?

He had one the end of April and it was negative. He was sprinkling then.
I really think it's just that he doesn't have complete control.
Sometimes he gets to the potty pads and other times there's a trail.
Same with BM. But he can get to the room where his pads are.

Hopefully in time complete control will come back.. Nerves are miracle workers but it takes time.. Perry will get there..

Poor Perry has been through a bout with diarrhea and an ear infection recently.
However he's on the mend and doing well.
He's still working on bladder/ bowel control but I do see small improvements.
I've just ordered a couple of Brooke's best male wraps with snaps and a quilted waterproof cover for the bed.
Both Perry and Nala are currently doing well.
I pray it continues.

I am pleased to hear that Perry is on the mend from his infections.
Bowel and bladder control can take a long time to come back but even small improvements are a step forward.
Try to look on the bright side (I know this is so much easier said than done) but right now they are both doing well.

Yesterday I noticed that Perry has a red rash on his tummy and the inside of both rear legs. Yikes!
His legs are strong again so I think he's peeing straight.
However, if he's excited or sleeping, he can dribble or pee.
I'm thinking he may be sleeping and pee and then lay there in it.
Tried male wraps but he wiggled right out.
I'm treating the rash with green tea and aquafor cream.
Ideas for moving forward?

Think I've finally worked out a plan for Perry.
I first tried snap male wraps which he wiggled right out of. Now I'm using a smaller size with Velcro.
Perry's wearing them at night and in the am just until I put up the baby gate to the bedroom.
Then he has free range during the day but no access to the bed.
I wash with green tea and apply aquafor every morning.

The Velcro works great. Dry them outside if you can. SPikes get stinky sometime, so I soak them in vinegar and detergent. Solves the proble,.

Perry's doing great. He runs and plays with no deficits at all.
He continues to be inconsistent with bladder/ bowel control.
So while I'm gone at work I baby gate the bedroom and put down potty pads.
Sometimes he makes it, others there's a long trail.
Whenever I'm home he wears a male wrap that I check frequently.
Each time it's wet I wipe him with a baby wipe.
Every day I check for any redness and apply aquafor if needed.

It's Perry's 1 year "anniversary" of his first IVDD episode.
He's come a long way. From being completely down in his back legs, to running around the house and playing with his toys.
Although bowel/ bladder control hasn't returned like I'd hoped, we've adjusted.
There's a basket for his male wraps, or wienie wraps as I often call them.
And I've invested in lots of paper towels. Lol!
We've found our new normal and as long as he's happy it's all good.

Perry lost some weight which is good for his back, but I had to change sizes in male wraps.
The Teamoy small's were too small in width.
Tried another brand called pet magasin which fit him great!
Also, decided to try using incontinence pads inside his wrap. Works great and keeps him much drier!
He's doing well and so is Nala.
