Miley is doing much better now but now that she's starting to feel better, I can't seem to get her calmed down in the darn kennel. I've tried natural calming aids, chewy's, ignoring her, telling her to hush, blanket's over teh kennel... pretty much everything and she loses her mind still.. (and I mean LOSES it). Besides the fact that she's keeping me up all night I'm worried she's going to hurt herself. She's never like being confined in anything, and this is not helping. Any idea's, anything at all, I'm at my wit's end and don't know what to do anymore ...

Hi Jenny, glad to hear Miley is doing better. What kind of a crate do you have her in? We recommend a wire crate so that she can see what's going on around her. Do you keep the crate in the same room as the family is in so she will feel included? I placed my dog's crate right on top of my bed at night so he could still "sleep" with me (the bed and crate were against a wall with me on the other side of it). Another thing that was a LIFE SAVER during and after crate rest was my pet stroller. It is easy to roll a stroller from room to room and easy to lift the dog in and out. Dogs get SO much mental stimulation out of stroller rides. Once Miley is off all meds, you could take her for stroller rides in quiet areas on smooth surfaces. Here's a link on strollers: dodgerslist.com/literature/strollers.htm Also, there are dvds that can help: petsittervideos.com/ and www.petmusic.com/ If Miley is getting too rambunctious in the crate, ask your vet about a prescription sedative, or ask if you can give plain Benadryl and get a dosage amount from the vet. Hang in there, you're doing a great job with Miley! Best wishes, ~Lisa

I have her in a plastic carrying crate right now as it's easier for me to transport around the house. The kennel is right beside me on the nightstand at night and in the living room on the couch so she can be with me around me and see me at all times pretty much.
Her last does of prednisone was yesterday. I still have some methocarbimol and tramadol just in case she has any muscle spasms or anything. She doens't really seem to need any further pain medication though. Her energy levels are great and she seems to be back to her old self now. I'm worried about giving her sedatives and such as she's finally off all the med's now that she was on. The vet told me today to try some gravol on her before bedtime as that's when she is the worst and see if it helps.
I'll definetly look into the stroller thing!! Thanks for the advice!
