[Original subject line: Beckett - Awaiting Diagnosis at ER Vet] (Hi all - thank you so much for this site and your time; it has been such a blessing in my panic. I am earlier in this potential IVDD process, as my dog just experienced what we think may be IVDD this afternoon [1/4]. He's been s een by his normal vet and the ER neurologist, and he has been hospitalized overnight for observation and re-eval tomorrow morning. It may not be IVDD, but that is on the table as a likely possibility. We will likely be having an MRI done tomorrow, and I am looking for any advice from your knowledgable experience on potential IVDD. I would appreciate any guidance best steps forward this early after the spinal event.) QUESTIONS ☆ 1 Beckett does not appear to be in pain. His normal vet did not suspect pain and the neurologist at the ER vet also did not suspect pain.☆ 2 65-70lbs, 13 years old A.. Currently hospitalized at the ER overnight for monitoring and re-evaluation in the morning, so not on any meds overnight tonight. Prior, he was on rimadyl and gabapentin for arthritis, as well as Ellevet CBD, Dasuquin, and a fish oil supplement. (He also goes to PT, which includes water treadmill and laser, every week). ☆ 3 -- None - eating and able to go to the bathroom on his own (once helped up). ☆ 4 Beckett, husky mix, Meagan Cox ☆ 5 Still waiting on diagnosis, likely will be getting an MRI tomorrow but we're going to see how he does in 24 hours at the vet hospital. -- He was seen by a general DVM before going to see a neurology resident at the ER. Saw a general DVM who is also a neurology resident tonight, will have another evaluation with the staff DACVIM tomorrow. ☆ 6 Just saw the vets today (1/4/23) at ~2:30pm and then the ER vet around 5:30PM. No decision about conservative treatment or surgery yet. ☆ 7 Went to the bathroom normally earlier today (last outside around 11am) and then could not get up on his own around 2pm [1/4]. At the ER vet, around 5pm, he went to the bathroom himself after being helped to get up (we did not see it, the techs had already taken him, so can't speak to specifics) ☆ 8 We think so; he kept trying to get up and he is able to walk when given support to get up from lying down. He has normal sensation in his legs, can wag his tail, and is able to go to the bathroom without expression. Just registered! dodgerslist.boards.net/user/9205

Megan, I'm so sorry that your Beckett is having nerve trouble to use his back legs.
We are not vets here on the Forum. So that means we depend on a diagnosis from a vet in order to know where to best help. There could be a lot of reasons for leg damage other than IVDD. The fact that he can move them in a walking motion with sling support and can do a happy tail wag, means he quite possibly can with time self repair the nerve damage.
When you can, tomorrow, do keep us updated on the diagnosis from the neuro resident. I'll be thinking of you both.
