Julia, if you can register that would allow timely communications while helping Eli. You would be able to set up an email alert when there is post waiting for you. #1 reason for pain and what to discuss with your vet PRONTO, today!
-- The taper of prednisone which I'm interpreting as not 9/2 but Oct 2, it the time to see if pain still exists and if yes, then another course of pred. You are reporting pain. A 3-day course of pred is quite short. Usually a vet will make a guess for a 5-7 day course or even a 14-day course. #2 reason for pain surfacing with prednisone on board-- pain meds are effective for about 8 hrs. -- Discuss with the vet that all pain meds (gabapentin, methocarbamol, codeine be prescribed for every 8 hrs. dosing. #3 what is the stumbling block to using Pepcid AC (famotidine) for the duration of prednisone? You can speak up for Eli, when you have knowledge under your belt. The three reasons why the GI tract/stomach needs to be protected with use of prednisone: dodgerslist.com/2020/05/06/stomach-protection/ #4 Did you get a hands on top of your hands type of bladder expressing lesson? If not, go to the vet with Eli and get that lesson today. When a dog has lost bladder control a bladder infection can set in a matter of days. DO NOT FOOL around with urinary tract infections (UTIs). Review expressing video and tips so you get more out of the lesson. Eli, may need to be put on an antibiotic so the infection does not move up in to his kidneys. ** Good-to-know EXPRESSING Tips: Tips for at-home care for a heavy dog:dodgerslist.com/2022/02/10/large-dog-care-tips-ivdd/QUESTIONS 1. Had pain been ever been fully covered dose to dose/round the clock since first prescribed meds on 9/29? 2. Or did the pain surface on the taperinng of prednisone (what date?) 3. Have you been able to provide very STRICT rest since 9/29 when he lost use of his legs? Please correct any/all dates if there has been a misinterpretation.
MED LIST/HISTORY- 33 lbs 6 y.o. 9/29 saw general vet for Prednisone 9/30 saw specialist vet10/2 pred taper startedprednisone as of 9/29: 5mgs 2x/day for 3 days, 10/2 test taper for: √Pain/_neuro
Look forward to hearing how the vets have adjusted meds (name, mgs x/day) and that Eli is out of pain as it should be so he can self heal his disc and his nerves in comfort.
