Jodie ☆ 5 Was the diagnosis IVDD (aka: a disc problem, a disc herniation, a bulging disc, slipped disc)? Slipped disc -- Is the vet a general DVM? Normal Uk vets -- or a specialist surgeon: ACVIM neurology or ACVS ortho? ☆ 6 What was the date you saw the vet for CONSERVATIVE treatment? 15th April we began 12 weeks strict crate rest with medication and hydrotherapy. ☆ 7 bladder control? Yea DOGs with BLADDER Carry to and from the recovery suite to the potty place and then allow a very few limited footsteps. Using a sling (long winter scarf, ace bandage, belt) will save your back and help to keep a wobbly dog’s back aligned and butt from tipping over. A harness and 6 foot leash is to control speed and keep footsteps to minimum as you stand in one spot. An ex-pen in the grass is an excellent alternative to minimizing footsteps with the physical and visual to indicate there will be no sniff festing going on!☆ 8 Currently can your dog wobbly walk? move the legs at all? or wag the tail when you specifically do some happy talk? Yes

Jodie, we have no way to contact you about the emergency Lily has. Registering opens up timely communications of email alerts when you have a reply. LILY IS IN PAIN! Call your vet asap to adjust the meds. • Advocate for all three sources of pain to be covered. All three pain meds to be Rx'd for every 8 hrs (3x/day). Pain meds are only effective for about 8 hrs. 1) traMADol-general analgesic 2) methocarbamol- muscle spasm pain 3) gabapentin-nerve pain) • Ask if Lily has any health issue to prevent use of acid suppressor Pepcid AC (famotidine, go to the grocery store or chemist to buy Pepcid AC. The usual dose of Pepcid AC (famotidine) for dogs is 0.44mg per pound, 30 mins before the anti-inflammatory and thereafter every 12 hours for as long as your dog is on the anti-inflammatory. 23 lbs Lily x 0.44 famotidine = 10 mgs Pepcid AC every 12 hours. --The dose of famotidine may require reduction in patients with liver or kidney disease. -- It may be prudent with heart patients to choose another class of acid reducer. Resolution of spinal cord inflammation/swelling provides the relief from pain. It can take prednisone a range of 7 to 30 days before all swelling is gone (taper days do not count as the dose is tapered and too low). Meanwhile it is absolutely necessary to keep a dog comfortable with an aggressive pain med approach. Pain deters healing. You are the eyes and ears for your vet to know if his med Rx is right for Lily. There should be no sign of pain you've reported (reluctance to move, shiver or tense tummy) from one dose of meds to the next. Have no patience with pain as it does hinder healing. Look for your dog to be acting their normal, perky self when pain is fully under control round the clock. Help us understand Lily's medications. Fill us in on the missing details 1. What was the date of this disc episode (not the disc episode that happened on April 12 with a graduation in June). We are a bit confused, and look forward to your help with dates. 2. Prednisolone --What date was pred prescribed for this last and current disc episode? --How many mgs of prednisone was Rx'd for this current disc episode? -- How often was the original dose at— once a day or the more usual twice a day? --What was the date the current course of prednisone first started to taper? Or what date will it start to taper? 3. Gabapentin -- How many mgs is each dose of gabapentin? STRICT CRATE REST? Have you been carrying Lily to and from the recovery suite for potty time. Have she been limited to a very, very few minimal footsteps to take care of business in a 2 meter area as show in graphic below?
