[Original subject line: Anna Conservative Management Degenerated L1-L2 intervertebra] My
2 year old
Toy Australian Shepherd injured her back and pulled her iliopsoas muscles after a play date in November 2021. She was 1.5 years old at the time. Since then she has remained inactive and went to PT for acupuncture and physical therapy. It seemed like she was doing better but she LOVES to jump and I have fences everywhere but sometimes she gets through or opens her pen and jumps which causes major setbacks. Seriously, she will be doing great and one
jump off the bed and she is essentially right back to where we started.
She just did an
x ray [date?]for an unrelated reason and was discovered to have narrowing at
L1-L2, exactly where her back has been hurting. She is only
2 and functioning just with a sore back which is probably why surgery hasn’t been discussed.
QUESTIONS
☆ 1 Is there still
currently pain?
YES, she has been fluctuating for the last 8 months with on and off back pain premeditated by accidentally jumping. We have fences and she is fenced off. There are occasional accidents because I am not perfect and my apartment is tiny.
2 How much does your dog weigh? Age?
Anna is
7.9lbs and is slightly overweight. She just turned 2 but these issues started back in November after a playdate when she was 1.6yrs old.

☆ 4
Anna is a toy australian shepherd so you can imagine her energy levels. My name is Roxanne
☆ 5 the diagnosis was a pinched nerve (no scans) back in November 2021 with a physical therapy veterinarian in a rehabilitation center.
2 days ago, Anna got
[7/6] X-Rays for her stomach and the interpreter incidentally found
narrowing of the L1-L2 intervertebral disc space with
ventral spondylosis.☆ 6 What was the date you saw the vet for CONSERVATIVE treatment?
December 2021. I do not think I adequately restricted her and so we are still here. I am doing my best.
Anna was originally prescribed strict rest and got given acupuncture and PT (which I can no longer afford its been THOUSANDS).
☆ 7 Can your dog specifically sniff and squat and then release urine which is bladder control?
☆ 8 Currently can your dog wobbly walk? move the legs at all? or wag the tail when you specifically do some happy talk?
Answering 7 and 8: She has
full control over her bladder and movements but is
reluctant [pain]. She walks funny but am unsure if this is due to her iliopsoas injury or back pain. nonetheless, she is still able to walk. However because she has not gone on walks for months she has lost a lot of muscle.
