[Original subject line: Update to my Love Jaime! The Fighter] Since Jaime had his surgery in 2021 during the summer, he wrangled with a rabbit, and in December(before Christmas) we were told that he was paralyzed from his tryst with the rabbit. Jaime had 3 months of recovery from his last surgery and 3 months of walking. We declined another surgery that would cost $1000.00 for an unsure amount of time with Jaime. Not to mention, Jaime was in surgery for 4 hours. We bought Jaime a wheelchair so that he can walk around. Jaime is his happy self. As usual, Jaime shows me the fighter in him. He has started to stand (picture included). Jaime is a fighter, so I know that he will work until he can maneuver himself to stand, without assistance. My husband and I want to take him back to the surgeon that performed his surgery-Dr. Pierre Bichsel Animal Specialty & Emergency Center of Brevard. We are thinking that maybe some rehab-same as he received when he had surgery. I know that Jaime may never walk again by himself. I just want the best for my baby at all times. Please give me any help with this situation! Thank you! [MED LIST/HISTORY- Moderator’s Note. Please do not edit 25 lbs. 4 years and 11 months diazepam 5mgs 2x/day] 5 mg twice each day
[ moved to the Forum 1/27 9am EST: ]They have him on Diazepam 5MG twice a day for muscle spasms. He has to wear diapers now since he cannot hold it until we take him out. Is this normal for a disc episode?

Dr. Ida, sorry to hear about Jamie having another disc episode in Dec 2021. Not sure we have all the facts to avoid going off in the wrong directions. Would you fill us in on these details. -- Date of December disc episode? -- Conservative treatment is meds, 8 week of STRICT rest (no carts, no rehab, no PT) What anti-inflammatory (steroid or a non-steroid) was Rx's in Dec? What date did the anti-inflammatory stop on? What meds is he on now, if any? Does he currently show any signs of pain? -- In December was he put on VERY STRICT Rest? -- When did that STRICT rest stop? — weight? — age? Until we know the details, because it takes 8 weeks to heal the disc, it appears he should NOT be off of strict rest. Nerves can heal. HOWEVER, if the early healing disc would re-tear the nerve damage might be permanent. 8 weeks of rests to make sure Jamie gets every single change to heal the disc and with time see what he can do to self repair nerves. STRICT REST means: ◼︎No laps ◼︎no couches ◼︎no sleeping with you ◼︎ Eats inside of the recovery suite ◼︎no baths ◼︎No chiro therapy whys: dodgerslist.com/2020/04/22/chiropractic/◼︎No dragging or meandering at potty times. ◼︎No PT for conservative dogs during 8 weeks to heal disc ◼︎At home laser or acupuncture for severe neuro damage is best. ◼︎ Transports are always a risk to the disc of too much movement. Vet visits must be weighed risk vs. benefit for dogs with little to mild neuro diminishment. ◼︎ Avoid dangerous detours. Follow the "Roadmap." Tape it to your fridge. Need Help Finding L-Carnitine Powder-Muscle supplement-1/4 tsp in food twice a day. My Vet is trying to find it-Grant Animal Clinic. Dr. Pierre Bichsel has retired so the Animal Specialty & Emergency Center states that they do not have an avenue to get this particular supplement anymore. Dr. Bichsel stated that Jaime needed to take this forever for his muscles. He also stated that the vet center would get it for me. However, they have turned into a joke. Please help. I have tried Amazon. My vet is calling everywhere. I know that there has to be someone that knows something about it.
