I have a 4yr old mini named Clementine who has a calcified disc, sometimes not always drags her back legs they have her on methocarbamol 2-3xs day, tramadol 2xs day and Rimadyl 1x day.she started having accidents in the house both urine and poop which vet explained her back could be getting worse and she associates pain with outside so rather go inside where she's more comfortable..... they have mentioned to us doing a contrast through back which is about $500 and also back surgery which is $3200 which we can not afford right now I just wanna know what more can I do besides invasive stuff to help her

Hi! My name's Sabrina. What's yours? I'm so sorry you and Clementine have to go through this. I'm new to IVDD and Dodger'sList has been such a huge help to me. Is Clementine currently on crate rest? I didn't know how vital this was before I found Dodger'sList (below I've linked to a page that explains crate rest.) If you can answer some more questions (from this thread: dodgerslist.boards.net/thread/27/1-introduce-dog ) folks will be able to help you more with Clementine's specific circumstances: -- What was the date you saw the vet and started 100% STRICT crate rest 24/7? -- Is there still currently pain - shivering, trembling, yelping when picked up or moved, reluctant/slow to move head or body, tight hard tummy? -- What are the exact names of meds currently given, their doses in mgs and frequencies? -- Currently can your dog wobbly walk? move the legs at all? or wag the tail when you do some happy talk? -- Do you find wet bedding or leaks on you when lifted up? -- Eating and drinking OK? -- Poops OK - normal color no dark or bright red blood? Have you found the main Dodger'sList site with all the articles? Here are some links to get you started: Crate Rest Recovery Process - www.dodgerslist.com/literature/CrateRRP.htmHow to set up a recovery suite - www.dodgerslist.com/literature/cratesupplies/preppingcrate.pdfConservative treatment for disc disease (IVDD) - www.dodgerslist.com/literature/conservative.htmOverview: Healing during a disc episode - www.dodgerslist.com/literature/healingpage.htmINDEX to Overview: Phases of healing - www.dodgerslist.com/healingindex.htm)))Hugs!((( -Sabrina

Please do know it is in the cards for Clemintine to get back to enjoying life again after 100% STRICT crate rest 24/7 only our to potty for a full 8 weeks. It is not clear from your post if you are doing the single most important part of the care…the crate rest part. 100% STRICT crate rest 24/7 only out to potty means no laps, no couch, no sleeping in bed with you, no meandering, scooting or dragging around during potty times. No baths, no chiro (aka VOM). In other words do everything you can to limit the vertebrae in the back from moving and putting pressure on the bad disc.
