Heather's account: dodgerslist.boards.net/user/7986[Original subject line: Intro to Theodorus ] Hello, and thank you so much for your support. To answer the questions: 1. The dog is not in pain 2. Our dog weighs 14.8 kilos [32.63 lbs]3.Current medical protocol: 100 mg morning 1030 am of Gabapentin taken after food 32 ml of Loxicom at 1030 am taken after food [Moderator's Note. Please do not edit 14.8 kilos (32.63 lbs) Loxicam as of 9/24: 32ml 1x/day gabapentin 100mgs 1x/day needs GI tract protector, Pepcid AC, on board w/Loxicam! ]Dog does not have any medical conditions that keep him from using Pepcid 4. Breed Cockapoo, Age 4.5, Theodorus Umlah Bekefi, My name is Heather Umlah 5. It was a vague diagnosis of slipped/herniated disk in lower back by vet that is covering for our normal vet. Tomorrow we see normal vet with in house surgeon for official diagnosis. 6. Dog is eating, drinking, peeing and pooping as normal. 7. We saw the vet on Thursday, Sept 24 and started conservative crate rest as directed for 4 weeks. 8. Dog does not leak when lifted 9. Dog can move both legs, wags tail, and walks normally, although slightly favoring left side when peeing. He has done very small walks [only fewest of footsteps are allowed] for pooping and peeing which are both normal. Other than that he is in crate or small pen area.

Heather, welcome to the Dodgerslist Forum! Kudos to you for getting your dog under 100% very STRICT rest upon suspicion of a disc episode. Your prompt attention to STRICT rest prevents a worse damage to the spinal cord. If the diagnosis is a disc episode, then with mild symptoms he is a good candidate to heal the disc with 8 weeks of strict rest. Is favoring his left side the only observation the substitute vet confirmed on 9/24? No evidence of grazing of nails on the floor or dragging the left back paw a bit? POTTY TIME safety for the disc: Carry your dog to and from the recovery suite to the potty place and then allow a very, very few limited footsteps. Using a sling (long winter scarf, ace bandage, belt) will save your back and help to keep a wobbly dog's back aligned and butt from tipping over. A harness and 6 foot leash is to control speed and keep footsteps to minimum as you stand in one spot. An ex-pen in the grass is an excellent alternative to leash/harness to minimize footsteps with a physical and a visual to indicate there will be no sniff festing going on! ** Excellent tips and ideas to make crate rest go smoother: dodgerslist.com/2020/05/14/strict-rest-recovery-process/Bookmark a thread to receive an email alert when someone has replied

Welcome to the Forum, dearest Heather. And of Course Theodorus (aka Theo). Post some pictures when you get a chance. Everyone loves pictures on this site......Also post pictures of your crate set up so it can be seen and it can be commented on. So excited you're here. It was a life-saver for me, especially initially, not just for the incredible and detailed information it has all over the place here, but for the emotional support which I really needed as when I went through my first of FOUR bouts with IVDD, it was FOR ME, just a horror show and I was filled with fear coming from every direction. Having a place where these people (Linda, Paula, and the rest of the gang) so willingly giving of themselves, their time, their personal experiences, and their emotions having gone through what I was going through, was absolutely priceless and a value beyond words.
