[Original subject line:Sleeping ]
My baby Gizmo has surgery 2 years ago. Some days are good and some you can tell are tough. He never recoprated to 100% but he has a wheel chair and scoots around , happy as can be. Since his surgery I notice he sleeps on his sides with his front legs siff and they twitch. Anyone elses dog does this ? The last couple of months seems to be more stiff. Thank you for your help.

Hi Beverly, Sounds like Gizmo is getting around like a little whirlwind! Go Gizmo!! When he recovered from surgery did the vet prescribe some PT for him? As it's now 2 years post surgery it would most likely benefit him to have a little gentle PT - if you are not doing that already - and see if it makes any difference to the stiffness in his front legs, even if it doesn't I'm sure he would enjoy a little therapy and pamper time! You could do similar movements on his front legs as the back ones in the video in the link I've included, with a little soft tapping on the shoulder muscles and a very gentle massage movement on his neck, go slowly and you'll both enjoy. dodgerslist.com/2020/05/27/surgery-dog-pt/kind regards Mary

Yes , he is a happy boy ! Some days are good some days are tough but over all he is happy. I also notice his head Bobs up and down a bit when he is sleeping. We do rub his legs and massage his back, and move his legs for him but his front legs he walks on them but are stiff when he lays down. I really appreciate you sharing this info with me !

Bev, let us know how those front legs do after trying some of the exercises Mary pointed you too..as they may be a bit more involved that what you had been doing (?) Also just like we enjoy a relaxing warm bath, perhaps Gizmo, would also feel good and relaxed after a warm swim or playing with a toy in your tub.
