Hi Paula my name is Marie Hogan we have a long haired silver dapple Dashund also name Peanut butter but we only go by Peanut he is 4 years of age, we got him from the ( Oregon Dashund rescue society ) 3years ago one month ago today we had to take him to the emergency animal clinic there he was diagnose with IVDD 2 slip disc we were devastated, surgery was mentioned but no guaranty and very costly so we are doing conservative treatment, crates for 6 to 8 weeks for the first 2 weeks he was taking steroid dex... tramadol, pepcid and antibiotic for precaution due to his paralysis in his back legs we were and still are expressing his bladder he does not have deep pain sensation in his back legs and of course no wag from the tail our vet says that there is not much we can do he does not appear to have pain he has no problem eating and drinking we have not yet organized the poop schedule but we are working on it, we are going to start some rehabilitation next week and we are going to order him a set of wheels, but how long after can we have him in wheels? all his medication is finish he is some what stronger now meaning he pull's himself up on his front legs and pivots himself ,I know it is still very soon any help will be very appreciated and thank you for your Dodgerslist it is so helpful and to read other people's feed back makes us a bet more hopeful, Peanut is such loving little guy we love him to pieces he brings us so much pleasure and love his weight is almost 20 lbs you see when we got him he was classed as a tweeny because he is not a mini not a standard so he is in between he has beautiful marking I will enclosed his picture as soon as my husband helps me download one for you. Looking forward hearing from you thank you

Welcome to Dodgerslist. My name is Paula what is yours? I'm sorry to hear Peanut is is suffering with a disc episode. We'd like to be able to support you better…can you tell us a bit more about his current status: -- What was the date you saw the vet and 100% STRICT crate rest 24/7 only out of the recovery suite to go potty? We guessed it might have been on June 12 or so?? -- Is there still currently pain - shivering, trembling, yelping when picked up or moved, reluctant/slow to move head or body, tight hard tummy? -- Currently can your dog move the legs at all? or wag the tail when you do some happy talk? The very, very lightest least aggressive range of motion and leg massage is necessary for paralyzed legs during conservative treatment and the ONLY rehab that should be done until after all 8 weeks of crate rest have been completed. The information highlighted in PINK pertains to a dog who can't walk. www.dodgerslist.com/literature/massagepassiveexercises.htm There should be no wheelchair until all 8 weeks of crate rest have been completed…so do let us know the date you started crate rest. -- Does he stay dry in between expressing sessions? While on pred you may have to express every 2-3 hours because he is drinking more water. -- Are you also expressing for poop? Here is the how- to video plus tips: www.dodgerslist.com/literature/Expressing.htm#poopWe look forward to your answers and learning more about Peanut.

Marie, do you also express for poop? Is he now eating, so there is something to digest and expel?
