Kaia is doing very good! She walks, skips, trots and and runs. Her right side is her weaker side and she has a little limp when she walks, but she moves around just fine.
I have 2 questions, the fist is when she is sniffing and walking slowing investigating the sights and smells, she will elevate her back right leg off the ground. I'm certain she is not in pain, but I'm wondering why she would do this, and if anyone experienced anything similar. When she needs to move about, the leg is down and moving. Any thoughts?
Secondly, we need to do an anesthesia dental cleaning. Is there a concern with her being under anesthesia and waking up and hurting herself.
Thanks for any feedback. Jennifer and Kaia

Glad to hear Kaia is still doing well. Hard to say why she lifts her right back leg. As your vet mentioned some time ago it could be a bit of scar tissue built up where the surgery was. The lowering of the head to sniff…. that position maybe causes a bit of discomfort so she does not want to bear weight. On the other hand may it is just a quirk she has developed since the surgery and means nothing. Anesthesia with an IVDD dog does require some precautions. You will want to read about it here: www.dodgerslist.com/literature/IVDDcourse/precautions.htmlLet us know what the vet says and how the dental goes.

Hi Jennifer, regarding the dental, I also had to have my IVDD post-surgical dog's teeth done under anesthesia. I had pre-anesthesia bloodwork done to make sure he was ready for it. I was scared to death of the staff manipulating his spine. SO, I talked to every single one of the employees, lol. Just told them to be very careful with his spine, do not twist him or force him to lie down, and when held - to support both ends and keep his spine aligned. Not that I don't trust my vet's office, but I am a worry wart. It paid off, the vet and staff were so attentive with him! My vet called me after one side of his mouth was done, and then called again after the other side was done. I was allowed to take him home early because of his special needs. We look forward to hearing how Kaia's dental goes. Best wishes, ~Lisa
