My Nala has IVDD and is 10 years old. She has started getting tired on walks and I am thinking of getting a stroller. I don't have a lot of money and have looked on e-bay. I am really confused as to what kinds of strollers are good. I just need one to take around the neighborhood on a paved surface. Nala is 14 lbs. Any suggestions? [Tips:
The larger the wheels, the sturdier the stroller will be, the easier it is to push, and it will provide a more comfortable and stable ride. Consider the terrain you'll be strolling over, the bigger the wheels the better it will handle a variety of terrains.

Hi Julie! I have a stroller for Millie, my IVDD rescue girl. She had surgery last August and is still working toward independent mobility I use a stroller for her when we go on long walks or visit places where she can't use her wheels. She actually broke her first one - she's a bouncer, and the rear seam split on her umbrella-style stroller! I got her another, stronger one made by Pet Gear. (I like their products - I have a soft-sided carrier that I use in the car also made by Pet Gear.) After shopping around online, I found it on Amazon: smile.amazon.com/Pet-Gear-Trails-Stroller-30-pounds/dp/B0006Z9RB2/ref=sr_1_4?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1437931612&sr=1-4&keywords=pet+gear+dog+stroller It says it's for dogs up to 30 lbs, but I can't vouch for its strength since Millie only weighs 10 lbs. I like some of the features - cup holders (for dog treats, of course!), under carriage basket/bin, easy fold-up and open-up - and I had no difficulty with some minor assembly tasks (putting on the wheels). My only complaint is the zipper: you need to make sure you don't unzip it completely because it can be hard to get started. I purchased a small fleece pad to put inside; it comes with a thin but sturdy, removable padded mat that can be washed and rinsed with a sponge. I would suggest that you shop carefully and thoroughly online as there are many options and prices vary tremendously. If it's just for neighborhood walks, you probably don't need anything fancy. If you find something you like, please post the info here for others to see. Good luck!

Hi Julie, Just to add to Peyton's wonderful post on the Pet Gear strollers. Our Tyler has a Pet Gear NV No zip Pet stroller. It has no zippers and clips shut. The strong clip that attaches to the mesh hood that covers the stroller. Here is a link to a thread I made about it not long after we got the stroller. dodgerslist.boards.net/thread/2055/tylers-new-pet-stroller It has some pictures of Tyler enjoying it. It came complete with a nice bed.. Tyler loves his stroller and even enjoys laying in it, he adores his stroller walks. He rides for the first part of our walk and then walks back. I can also put him back in it if we see another dog coming, or if he gets tired and wants to ride. It comes in handy for disc episodes too. We can use it to wheel him from room to room. We never leave him in it unattended. It's good to always keep that in mind. Dogs are always unpredictable. They do the unexpected in the blink of an eye.

Pauliana - I wish I had waited for the NO ZIP stroller lol! Oh well. Your point about never leaving a dog in a stroller unattended is important - and: use the brakes whenever you stop strolling!

I am looking at a Pet Gear Happy Trails no zip stroller for $69 on e-bay. Anyone know if this is a good stroller? My Nala is 14 lb. and I just need a stroller to go around the neighborhood on pavement. I don't have a lot of money but want to get something decent.

Hi Julie.
Here is the description of the stroller you are looking at on Ebay below this message. It’s about 6 inches shorter inside dimensions than the one I got for Tyler. He is also a Shih Tzu with IVDD like your Nala. He weighs 13 pounds. It’s the right size for him with room to turn around and stretch his legs out. It is rated for a 70 pound dog but no way would a dog that size fit in there.. It also has the large all terrain wheels on it for a smoother ride and shock absorbers. It is more expensive but well worth it and we use it every single day. It is strong and durable and gives a very smooth ride which is important for an IVDD dog. You may be able to find one that is used but still in great condition.
Measure your Nala and see if she will fit comfortably with legs stretched out and be able to turn around in the these inside dimensions of the Happy Trail No zip stroller.. 24 inches long and 12 inches wide and 22 inches high. Be sure which ever stroller you choose is one that will last for you and Nala. If you are taking her on smooth surfaces and it is large enough to be comfortable for her then go for it. It is a great price. Shop carefully as you are wanting to get something that will last so you don’t have to make another purchase of a stroller because the size isn't right or other reasons and end up spending more than you wanted to in the first place. Get what is practical the first time.. : ) I love the no zip feature and you will too. Pet Gear makes great quality strollers.
Product Description Pet Gear has really “raised the bar” with the new Happy Trails NO-ZIP stroller. No zippers means no hassle when trying to open and close the stroller. The new NO-ZIP technology means that you can easily gain access to your pet without fumbling with difficult zippers! The Happy Trails NO-ZIP stroller also features an elevated paw rest. Your pet can easily look out of the stroller by using the front bar for support. The new panoramic view window allows your pet to remain safe inside of the stroller without missing any sights while you stroll! Key Benefits Easy-locking, NO-ZIP entry Elevated paw rest Panoramic view window 600 Denier water-resistant material Large storage basket Parent tray for keys, water, etc. Rear safety brakes Interior tether Front shock absorbers Top window and viewing area Stroller height to handle 40 inches Interior dimensions: 24 x 12 x 22 inches For pets up to 35-lbs (I would say no more than 12-14 lbs max)

I have Zoe, but I also have Remmy who is a 14 year old mini dach and just can't take the long walks anymore. Well, now that Zoe had her surgery she can't either, so I would like to find a stroller that could take both of them. total of 30 lbs. OxGord® Pet Stroller: www.amazon.com/Oxgord-Stroller-Folding-Carrier-Carriage/dp/B00IGEN3BU?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00 OxGord® Pet Stroller is the stroller I got. I love it! It was cheap enough that if we didn't like it wouldn't be a big deal. Both my dogs can fit in it, total of 30 lbs. I love it for my oldest man who just get tired on long walk. I really wish I had purchased it when I had to carry Zoe to the vet all the time. It would really have helped.

Best Crate I have ever seen For a Dog with IVDD I recently came across this crate, wish I had it when MY dog went down 2 years ago with IVDD. Most Crates have a front or side door, this crate has a side door but also the top of the crate can be removed very simply so you can reach down and lift your dog up and out versus having to reach in and pull / slide your dog out and risk pulling on his spine. The Crate comes in two sizes I got the Medium which is perfect for my 20 lb dog. Also the crate has 5 wheels on it, one on each corner and one under the middle for support. This is a heavy crate , the Medium size weighs in at 36 lbs because the corner support post are made of Wood, which also makes it a quiet crate with no metal on metal clanging. The quality is amazing, instructions to put together are easy and the website has videos on its features. It is not a cheap crate List Price is $250.00 but I got it on Wayfair for only $185.00 and free shipping. It is sturdy and easily rolls from room to room , it is built soild. and is well designed. They also make Xpens for larger areas and gates for doorways, I choose the Crate for ease of movement and most of al for access to picking up my dog. www.richellusa.com/product/mobile-pet-pen-940/Mobile Pet Pen 940 { 36.8 L x 24.2 W x 26 H" } The Above picture shows you how the tops comes off, this is on the XPEN but is the same on the Crate that rolls.www.richellusa.com/catalog/pet-products/pens-crates/

The best thing I saw for all terrains was a yard wagon (large wheels) with a side and top opening crate in the wagon.

I purchased Luckyermore dog stroller for large dog or multiple dogs. I went with this one because it is deep and he has no chance of climbing out and it gives him room to stretch out and turn without having to s curve his spine. [18' x 26"]The top is mesh but also has a solid top that goes over it. You can leave it closed with both or just with the mesh. smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08S6RR9XH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

There is actually a dog stroller design for OLD, sick, injured dog. I think the name of the model is Grand Cruiser senior and sick dog stroller. It is designed with low-lying frame and a dog ramp.
