Hi All! My 6 year old doxie is 4 months post-op for a herniated disc. His recovery is going well, he can run, go for walks and has full use of his back legs. We have noticed every few weeks or so he seems a bit sore, no yelping but not quite as bouncy as usual, and give him so extra rest. The Vet said this is normal for recovery and because they weren't able to remove 100% of the disc material.
My husband and I are leaving for a week vacation and this will be the first time he's staying that long at a doggy daycare since his surgery...I'm pretty nervous about it. He has gone for the day, and a 2 night stay, both went well. The place he goes is putting him with the senior dog play group and does not have anything he can jump on. He will be crated at night. They are aware of his IVDD and are familiar with it because the owner has doxies himself.
Has anyone else gone through this? I'm so nervous to leave him even though he's doing very well. Any tips or things I should be sure to tell/leave with the daycare?

What's your doxie's name? I would leave them the Fridge emergency flyer. www.dodgerslist.com/literature/FridgeInfo81907.pdf And a sign that shows the proper way to lift and carry a dog that keeps the back horizontal to the ground and the front and rear supported. Collars are just to hold a tag. If a leash will be used, it should attached to a harness.

Thank you! I typed up a care sheet for them and they work closely with his vet in case there's a problem. I think the biggest problem will be my worrying! :-)
