Hi i have a 4 1/2 year old long haired dachshund. Today i noticed while petting her a little below her neck she lower's her body to the ground as i pet her but if i stop petting her she raises her back to the normal position. She's not crying or yelping at all and is walking fine. She's also eating her food like normal. Is this a sign of back problems or ivdd? I just took her to the groomer and vet on Friday and she doesn't like to go at all. She goes crazy and wiggles and turns her body like crazy when the vet comes in. I would appreciate any help at all.

Welcome to Dodgerslist. My name is Paula what is yours and your doxie's? She is obviously tender from something. I could be as benign as muscle soreness to the first hint of pain caused by a prematurely aging disc. With a disc problem there are usually more than one sign of pain: trembling, yelping, walking slowly, not wanting to move much, not their normal perky self, tight tense tummy muscles, holding head high or nose to the ground, and arched back. So continue to observe and also start your IVDD 101 education today. The best time to learn about IVDD was when you got your puppy. The 2nd best time is now! This can be a scary disease IF you would get a diagnosis unexpectedly one day and in an unprepared state, especially when there is no clarity of how meds and treatments work. Blindly following vet directives makes the uneducated mind imagine the worst and takes a toll on the emotions, has us unable to recognize important signs and not able to fully commit to helping our dogs. The Core IVDD information is located on our main website. Don’t hesitate to bring up any reading questions here as they come to mind. IVDD 101: www.dodgerslist.com/literature.htm
