After 3 weeks of conservative treatment with lazer treatments by our vet, Belle is much better. She can hold her position to go potty and wobbles only a little. The better she gets the more she resents being in her cage. Her Kong stuffed with peanut butter and frozen entertains her for 10 minutes and then it is back to the loud and pitiful whining. She isn't interested in rawhide or Greenies. Does anyone have any suggestions? We have her cage on a table so she can look outside but not enough goes on there. Thank you for any and all suggestions. It is going to be a very long 8 weeks.

Welcome to Dodgerslist. My name is Paula, what is yours? What was the date she started crate rest? How much does she weigh? Is she on any meds? Dose in mg and frequency given? Do you see any signs of pain: shivering, yelping, tight tense tummy? Peanut butter is very high calorie and not a good idea. The high fat content can cause diarrhea too. Dogs normally sleep 1-18 hours a day. Rather than thinking you need to provide entertainment...think about some mental stimulation with tricks that do not make the back move such a nose touch a paw or a food bowl. Of course the training takes place inside the crate. www.clickertraining.com/15tips Whining is a manipulative thing...she's got your number! To dogs rewards are: food, looking at them, talking to them, eye contact, approaching the crate, petting. So anytime you see unwanted behavior ignore it, turn your back, leave the room if you have to. Anytime your dog is sitting or lying down quietly, give a reward. Soon Belle will learn which of her behaviors receive reward. Consider a calmer if she needs to relax, take the edge off: Using any oral calmer in combination with a Pheromone diffuser seems to work best. It takes several days for these to start working - it isn't immediate but they are a much better option if you can avoid heavy duty prescription sedatives. Farnum's Comfort Zone with D.A.P. www.petcomfortzone.com/ [pheromone diffuser] with one oral calmer from below: Oral calmers:ANXITANE® S chewable tabs contain 50 mg L-Theanine, an amino acid that acts neurologically to help keep dogs calm, relaxed www.virbacvet.com/products/detail/anxitane-l-theanine-chewable-tablets or tinyurl.com/atxc8l3
Composure Soft Chews are colostrum based like calming mother's milk and contain 21 mg of L-Theanine.
www.vetriscience.com/composure-soft-dogs-MD-LD.php [Composure] Rescue Remedy is a liquid herb combo to help with relaxation www.bachrescueremedypet.comwww.preciouspets.org/newsletters/articles/bach.htmPlain Benadryl (Diphenhydramine) with no additional medications added. Buy at your grocery store or pharmacy. Get the dosage from your vet. The wrong dose can have dangerous side effects, so your vet needs to prescribe the proper amount for your dog.
