I haven't been on DL for a while. Last year 2 of my doxies went down, had surgery and fully recovered and are doing well. They both had several IVDD episodes prior to their surgery and we decided it was time to eliminate the cause. I worried more than I ever have in my life, but DL was such a positive force and kept me focused so I didn't fall apart. I was grateful to have such valuable and comforting support. So, I'm back because my adult son adopted a rescue last year (actually only a couple of months ago) that went down. He is a knowledgeable dachshund person and knows all about the precautions we have to take for the "long & low"...but Bentley lost the use of his back legs in spite of all precautions. He is following the 8 week conservative approach and all is going better than expected. After 3 weeks Benny is weight bearing and trying to take steps when out to potty. Scott has restricted Benny's attempts to walk, as per the conservative approach. But we're all so excited he is progressing! I just wanted to share with my DL friends the good news. From experience, I know Benny is the exception. But want to encourage those with dogs who have the IVDD gene to hang in there and always be positive for the sake of your little furbaby! Pat & the 6 pack +1

Pat, good news on your son's dog nerve progress so early in the game! How about asking your son to join us on the Forum where we can learn all the details about Bently?
