Hi Paula
Thanks for your reply. It happened ard three days before 17 Dec 2013, at first we noticed something strange and a few trembling but thought could be behaviour as she walks fine eat normal everything okay, until on 17 dec we decided we must go see a vet.
That was the third time of toffee's ivdd episode.
When the vet examine and she immediately knew it was the
lower back (it tightens a bit when she gave pressure) that said it was not that serious (unlike toffee's second time where she would scream when touched), hence our vet recommended us to put her under strict cage rest for one month time time (vs two months last time) if everything went smoothly (we went back for a revisit a week later and toffee already showed much less pain)
The meds
that were given during cage rest were (toffee is about
4.5kg)
-
Caprofen 25mg
-
methocarbamol 500mg
-
vivitonin 50mg
-
gabapentin 100mg
In any case, today it's still not yet a month so toffee is
still inside a cage. However the
meds already finished two weeks ago and she recovered pretty nicely until today (she in fact already back to her normal self during the past two weeks already without meds - still in cage though)
I have to admit I did
brought her out onto sofa abt two times but I made sure she only sat there without moving (and she did, just lied there and sleep only) hence there should not be any big movement that may impacted the healing per se..
Drinking and eating still okay. Pooped this morning and everything's normal (no poo tonight though but she usually poo once everyday)
Besides the
trembling every now and then (mostly after we carried her out for potty and after she used her legs) she started trembled for few minutes. It then stopped when she rest inside the cage.
She is sleeping now and all I want is the secure a slot with our vet ASAP tomorrow - I live in
Hong Kong and our vet is the only Nero vet that specialised in IVDD (and id say only one who truly understands this disease here, as not many ppl aware of IVDD and knowledge is limited, even for some vets...)
Me and my partner started read a lot (including your website, thank you for the info) after the first episode happened so we know quite well about this disease, the treatment, etc, and have been extremely careful and strict with toffee, no jumping no standing no everything and try to prevent this from happening again. But I guess sometimes you just can't prevent it
Just a bit more info, the MRI showed toffee has two weak spots, neck and lower back. Dec 2013 and today it is the Lower back (previously it had once been the neck)
PS the
sofa cheat happened few days back (so assume that is not the reason why for the pain today?), and she has been inside cage all the time except potty since then.
