Hi All. Well what a shocking 24 hours we've had. Our 6 year old chocolate mini smooth Luna presented with stiffness, wobbliness and knuckling. Took her down the vet this morning who referred her straight over to the orthopaedic hospital. She had spinal surgery this afternoon. It's all happened so quickly and feel so worried for her.

Jo, we are glad you have joined us here on the Forum. I'm sorry to hear Luna had a disc problem. I know how excited you will be to bring her home on discharge day. So that none of your questions go unanswered in the excitement of it all, here is a list of starter questions to add your own to: www.dodgerslist.com/literature/dischargequestions.htmThis is highly suspected to be a genetic disease. Those dogs who have the gene were born with this disease. The discs were already prematurely aging at year one. It is only at age 4-7 typically when the vet and the owner first learn their dog has IVDD with signs of pain and loss of neuro functions. YOu will want friends and family to understand Luna's disease, her siblings and any puppies. This is a disease that can be lived with when owners know what to do upon seeing any sign of a disc episode. This DVD works in any country and is highly recommended: www.dodgerslist.com/store/DVDorder.htmDr. Isaacs (neurology) explains alot of questions we've all had about surgery and post op. I think you will welcome reading this too: www.dodgerslist.com/literature/surgery.htmYou'll also want to get Luna's recovery suite all set up…lots of things you will already have around your home…just need to gather them up: www.dodgerslist.com/literature/cratesupplies.htmWe'll be looking forward to your next update. How long they expect Luna to stay at the hospital, etc.
