Pino had back surgery four months ago in July. Since then he has recovered well but seems to have a hunch back which I believe heme will have forever. He also has had a some trouble gaining weight, which again I hope will resolve. Recently he has been whimpering and wincing in pain when he stretches his front paws? I am thinking that he might of pulled something or strained something. I'm trying to hold off going to the vet but I'm obviously concerned that he injured himself again...

Danielle, until you are certain you are not dealing with a disc episode, it is prudent to crate at once to avoid another surgery…it's an attempt to protect a suspected disc from a more severe tear and that tear doing serious damage to the spinal cord. Dr. Isaacs discusses pain that could be other than a new disc episode. www.dodgerslist.com/neurocorner2/Randompain.htmJust in case this may be a disc episode it's a good idea to refresh your mind on meds, the need for 100% STRICT rest (stricter) than for a post op dog. This is a good overview page: www.dodgerslist.com/literature/healingpage.htmLet us know what your vet diagnoses, that you do have Pino in his recovery suite until he gets a diagnosis other than a current disc episode.
