Stella has had 2 surgeries. One this past June and one a year before that. She walks whobbly and still uses sling outside. Last night she got up and couldnt walk. She was all tight. I massaged her hoping her legs just fell asleep. She is walking this morning but a little stiff. She ate but seems not herself. I am always nervous about her. Is this a sign it is happening again?

Welcome to Dodgerslist. My name is Paula what is yours? At any suspicion of a disc problem it is best to crate to protect the spinal cord and the disc and get vet help. I would have your vet look at Stella since she still seems no herself..something is not right. The usual signs are of pain evidenced by these sign(s): shivering, trembling, yelping when picked up or moved, reluctant to move much or slow to move, tight tense tummy, holds head in an unusual position, holds leg flamingo style not wanting to bear weight Education allows you to understand the why's of treatment and to stay on the path of what will help with recovery. IVDD is a journey...we also learn something about ourselves. We learn to pull out our inner strengths, seek solutions to problems..we learn we ARE up to the tests of life. So let's get on to the business of helping you help XXX to get back to living a happy and fun-loving life no matter the degree of healing. Are you ready? Take advantage of all of the information we have for you at www.dodgerslist.com/literature/healingpage.htm on the "Disc Disease IVDD 101" page. The best patient is an informed one. One who understands what IVDD is, is informed about both treatment options well enough to be able to discuss with the vet. Your dog can't do this. He depends on you to represent him, help make decisions. The more YOU know, the better informed decisions you'll be able to make concerning treatment, care and protection. It is scary to not know what to expect or how a treatment is supposed to work. So I highly recommend you start with the article entitled "Hows and Whys of conservative treatment" which will be your road map for the next 8 weeks IF this is diagnosed as a disc episode. www.dodgerslist.com/literature/conservative.htm Add this comprehensive "must-have" $3 DVD on IVDD to your arsenal of educational resources. Friends, family and those who will be caring for your dog should also watch this DVD; plus don't forget to order one DVD for your vet www.dodgerslist.com/store/DVDorder.htm Let us know what your vet says, IF this does turn out to be a disc episode we have lots of information to share with you.
