GM WEll we are 16 days post OP and I am very happy to report Oscar is doing well. We started taper of Pred this past Tuesday, and also the pain meds are all down to twice a day. He is moving very well without the scarf now, standing on his own and his legs are getting stronger everyday. We go back to Neuro on Tuesday to take out staples and I'm sure we will probably stop rest of pain meds.He does not seem in pain at all, but really wants out of the crate at times. Hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving, and thank you for all of the support throughout these last 5 weeks.

That's terrific! So glad Oscar is recovering well. Nala's been to laser therapy and since starting it several weeks ago is now standing and I've let her take a few steps. Just like Oscar, the better she feels the more she wants out. Her crate rest is over on 12/11. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Oscar. Hug him for me. 😄

Hello everyone Toady makes 4wks since surgery, and we are doing well. Oscar is off all meds and is getting time out of his crate to hang out in side bed. Still onl going out to pee & poop. This week we will start to walk a little more on the leash. Going to start with a couple mins and see how he does. He sleeps most of the time which is good. He is still a little weaker on the left hind leg, but no other signs of weakness. He doesn't really seem to want to walk very far, for now which is fine. Question: Any suggestions for better traction on our tile in the house?

IVDD dogs have a hard time walking on smooth surfaces. What I did was get some cheap runners and put them down on the wood floors. Some of our members have used yoga mats on the floor to help with traction.

Sounds like Oscar has graduated with 4 weeks of crate rest and now it is a gradual introduction back to physical activity and home life With graduation and more freedom here are some ideas for you: Check out how to teach four paws on the floor and more ideas with graduation from crate rest. www.dodgerslist.com/literature/AfterCrateRest.htmNow is the perfect time if you haven't already to make those home modifications so that you can reduce the stress on his spine in the future. No more stairs, ramps up to furniture, or blocking furniture all together. All those ideas and more are in this link: www.dodgerslist.com/literature/protectback.htm
