Paula, I will post pictures of before and after the modifications soon but first i have some questions.
Last night about 3AM I woke up and Baxter Boo is not acting normal. He was fine yesterday and fine when we went to bed. He is eating well this morning but is still acting not right. He has yelped once when being picked up.
Can he have a relapse when he still is paralyzed in his back legs? Or can he being having another disc episode in a different spot?
I am going to call the vet when the open and see if I can get him in this afternoon but I am just trying to figure out at this point what might be happening.
Update: After I posted this this morning, I went to pet Baxter Boo in his crate (we crated him immediately this morning) and he yelped when I went to pet him. So he is definitely experiencing pain somewhere. Will be calling the vet when the open at 8AM

Baxter Boo went to the vet today and is back on predisone (5 mg, 2X daily) and 1/2 a tramadol (50 mg tablets) every 8 hours. pecid
He has a bulging disc right above where his discs ruptured in February. So he is back on crate rest again.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Shari. Has the Tramadol completely gotten the pain under control? Remember to give 5 mg of Pepcid AC 30 minutes before the Prednisone and then every 12 hours thereafter for as long as Baxter Boo is on Prednisone.
Healing prayers for Baxter Boo.

Ah Shari I am sorry to hear this. Baxter Boo is a real trooper and you will get through this episode too. I know what a drag it is to have it happen again so soon, but you are well armed to to manage this rotten disease. Keeping you both in thought and prayer!

Thank you Paula and StevieLuv. The pain appears under control no yelping this morning when we took him out for his potty break. This morning he is acting a lot better, more perky.
PS: I am also giving him the pecid with the predisone.

I posted pictures the modifications to the drag bag under the original thread in updates. dodgerslist.boards.net/thread/1409/sharis-baxter-boo-conservative-15?page=4As for Baxter Boo, when I let him out to go potty after work no yelping or pain, he even barked to great me when I came in the door. My husband said he also did not yelp this morning on the first potty break or the second potty break when my husband let him out one more time before he went to work. so we have the pain under control. He is in his crate now acting much more like his normal self.

Baxter Boo begins his tamper of predisone today. He will now take one 5 mg predisone once a day. There have been no signs of pain since he started on meds on Monday. Hoping the tampering goes well, during his last episode earlier this year, the first tamper did not go well and he started experiencing pain again. Hoping this time we do not go through that again.

Hi Shari, I'm so sorry to hear about the new disc issue. Does this mean the full 8-10 weeks for him again?

I hope it goes well. It's mostly the cuddling and the interaction that I miss when they are crated. My thoughts are with you guys.

Baxter Boo goes to the vet the week of July 21st after he has been off all meds for a full two weeks and then we will have a more definite answer on how long his crate rest will be.

Crate rest for Baxter Boo started on 6/16 so the full 8 weeks would end on 8/11. So he would not be able to graduate from the crate until 8/11. That's how long it takes for a damaged disc to heal and form scar tissue. Being able to go off meds without pain indicates that swelling has resolved and is no longer pressing on the spine. However, the damaged disc still needs the full 8 weeks to heal.

I know it will be a minimum of 8 weeks, I am hoping the vet will say after a full 8 weeks Baxter Boo can graduate. This is our 4th episode and the last two have been longer than 8 weeks.

Baxter Boo went back to the vet and he is doing great so we are looking at the minimum of 8 weeks crate rest this time. As he feels better, he is more and more fussy in the crate. If all continues to go well he will graduate August 11th.

We are in the final stretch, Baxter Boo will graduate on August 11th, just 10 days to go. He is doing great. He is getting more and more fussy in his pen, it is like he knows he will be graduating soon.
