Congratulations, Pam and Dobby! You did it! Take it nice and slow and you'll both soon be used to your "new normal".

Thanks for all of the support from the beginning and into this next phase, as well as the congrats on our graduation! Neurologically, proprioceptive deficits dramatically improved, if not completely resolved. Same for ataxia. We are gradually increasing both the time and space that he has at potty breaks. Still on leash because if he sees a squirrel or the other dogs bark, he's ready to go. He is walking, no knuckling, dragging, or crossing legs. Occasionally a little wobble. Lifts his leg most of the time to pee and squats/holds himself fine for poo. Gradually feeding him more often outside of the crate in the usual feeding spot, but on a small rug because the floor is too slick. He will sit when I get his bowl ready and stand to eat. After the last of the meds, gradually shifted him back to his regular kibble without complaint. Making sure he gets enough water. We are allowing him to spend some time sitting/snuggling/snoozing with us outside of the crate. He is still on the leash, just in case something should cause him to perk up & suddenly try do more than he should. Watching closely for any signs of pain or regression of function.

Happy New Year! (a little belated) Dobby is doing well. Can let him be off-leash in the back yard for short periods of time, as well as in some areas of the house. Walks and even runs some. Have to be careful about letting him out when his terrier sister is also out because they want to run and race and play rough. He occasionally has a little wobble or mis-step, but no signs of pain. He did dash in from outside one day and headed straight for a 3-4 step set of stairs before we knew what was happening. He kind of "wiped out" mid-way and just about scared me to death. No immediate sign of any problems, but I gave him a partial dose of Tramadol & crated him & watched him like a hawk. Fortunately, no signs of pain or reduced function. NOTE: these steps are usually blocked by a baby gate. Also, this was reinforcement for ALL in the house that the baby gates are still needed and to catch him before or as he comes in the door, even if he has done OK off-leash outside. He has a vet appointment later this month.

Sounds like Dobby is doing great (if not a little too great in his own mind). I am convinced they are going to live out their lives trying to give us heart attacks!

Jean, so true! I think in Dobby's mind he has no need for any restrictions or limitations, which is kind of a mixed blessing.
