Kelly, it appears the Je 7th 7-day pred course was not long enough to resolve all swelling. Any hint of pain or neuro would be the day to phone the vet to alert him and get a new Rx for meds.
-- You are reporting a NEW neuro diminishment knuckling under front right paw on 7/4. (that neuro issue had resolved back on 6/14)
-- You are reporting signs of pain on 7/6
As long as you have been conscientious about very STRICT rest and limited movement of the neck/back then the signs you report are not due to too much movement having re-damaged the neck disc causing new neuro damage.
The signs you report would likely be attributed to the pred taper revealing pred has not yet been able to reduce all inflamed tissue.
-- Your vet will likely call for another 7-day pred course up at the anti-inflammatory level 3.75mgs 2x/day.
-- All pain meds back on board 3x/day.
-- Pepcid AC 5mgs 2x/day
Just remember it may take in the range of 7 to 30 days of anti-inflammatory level pred before all the painful swelling is gone. So far since real crate rest has started, Owen has only had 7 anti-inflammatory level days.
Please let us know what your vet's thoughts are and the details (mgs/frequency and for how many days) of any Rx's.
