Hi there,
I hope you don't mind me reaching out here.
Question: I see the latest fad seems to be dachshunds being carried in baby carriers (on owners chests or backs) and in backpacks. These dogs are sitting on their bums in an upright position. Surely this can't be good for their backs? Would appreciate your thoughts 🐾🙏🏻
Kind Regards Jen

That's not the proper way to carry a dog with IVDD for sure. And since dachshunds are the breed most prone to IVDD and there's no way without testing to know whether a dog has been born with IVDD until symptoms appear, it would not be advisable to carry a dachshund in that way. Or any other dog for that matter since any dog can be born with IVDD. For the safety of their backs, a dog should be carried with a horizontal spine. There are backpacks that are designed to carry a dog in such a manner so that type of backpack would be fine. Here's one that I can personally recommend that will carry a dog properly. It can be worn front or back. www.ruffrescuegear.com/
