We have two nine year old doxies. Bella has has surgery twice on a cervical disc and recovered well. Her brother Beau has been in pain for a month. We've crated him and treated with steroids. Earlier today he was much worse. He couldn't walk. We took him to Michigan State and he had two ruptured disc. Just got the call from the doctor the surgery is finished. We won't know how sucessful the surgery was and if he will be able to walk again for days or weeks. We are worried sick for our dog.

All of us here can sympathize and understand how stressful IVDD can be. Please know that we're here for you and will do our best to help you through this. You've done the important thing - getting him the medical care he needed. Now just take it one day at a time and see how his recovery goes. Here is a webpage from Dodgerslist with helpful information about surgery and discharge from the hospital that you should read: www.dodgerslist.com/literature/surgery.htmThis page has many links to different areas of Dodgerslist with information on how to set up a recovery suite, how to make your house back friendly, etc. www.dodgerslist.com/literature.htmPlease keep us updated.

Hello and welcome to Dodgerslist. We are sorry to learn that Beau and Bella both needed surgery. Cervical issues are more painful and can be more difficult to heal.
Let us know how Beau is doing when you hear from the surgeon and when he comes home what his surgeon recommends for post-op treatments.

Welcome to Dodgerslist Deb and George! Here is a list of questions to ask your Vet when they discharge Beau from the hospital: www.dodgerslist.com/literature/dischargequestions.htmIt usually takes about 2 weeks for the swelling from the surgery to subside. You will know more then but once he gets home he can start to heal in comfort in familiar surroundings with his loving family around.. Please let us know what medications they send home with him, as well as the dosages and frequencies given.. Let us know how it's going .. We'll be thinking of you..
