Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists was founded in 1989 and is currently one of the largest veterinary hospitals in the country. Today, GCVS is an internationally respected veterinary specialty and emergency hospital with 14 departments, over 50 veterinarians many of whom are board-certified specialists, and more than 200 support staff.
GCVS operates as an extension of your regular vet. They are not a veterinary care clinic for routine or normal vet care.
Dr. Giovanella was very professional and friendly, loved my Ray, provided excellent information and answered all my questions. Her recommendation after the MRI to not operate but provide medical treatment and crate rest worked out well for Ray. It's good to know that they can recommend treatment other than surgery.
GCVS can be expensive, though, due to their investment in equipment and staff. They have an in-house pharmacy but are perfectly willing to send prescriptions to your own pharmacy if it's a type of medication the pharmacy is likely to have.
GCVS has 3 other Board-certified neurologists on staff. They do a high-volume of dog and other animal-related IVDD care and so have a great deal of experience to offer.
