I posted back in December about my 11 yr old boy named Kozzy. I wrote about him on the old Yahoo list. He had cervical neck surgery the Friday before last Christmas and has been doing really well. DodgersList helped me with so many things from their advice to crate immediately to setting up a recovery suite to how to make a figure 8 sling. I have a little problem now that I need some advice/suggestions/comments on. Kozzy never had physical therapy of any kind after his surgery and now, 8 months after surgery he seems to be getting weaker. He always had a small limp after his surgery but now he's laying down almost any chance he gets. He's walking okay, just fatiguing really quickly. I get the impression that he has a hard time holding himself up on the hardwood floors because he always finds a throw rug to lay on. I do keep his "bedroom slippers" on the bottom of his feet trimmed to make the floors less slipper for him. He still does manage his walkabouts around our big yard but he really is limping and tired by the time he gets back to the house. Has anyone else had this happen? Thanks for directing me here from Facebook! I knew you had moved from Yahoo groups, I just didn't remember how to get to you.

Is he reluctant to walk on the floors because he slips?? Stevie's Vet recommended toegrips and they do work really well. They help improve traction quite significantly. How is his muscle tone? There are also booties and socks that help improve traction - we had the socks but found that they didn't stay put as well. check out toe grips at www.toegrips.comKeep us posted on how he makes out.

Thanks! What a good idea. Bummer though, that the video of how to measure has been removed. I just may order these.

Hi Dee,
Does Kozzy show any other signs of pain such as a tight hard tummy, trembling, yelping? Has he had a recheck at the vet recently? It may be a good idea to check into that to make sure he doesn't get any worse..
Perhaps having him walk for shorter distances to start with to build up his endurance.. Shorter distances, more frequently rather than longer walks for now, just to see if that would make a difference..

Dr. Buzby's toegrips has a Facebook page and she recently posted all of the videos, including the ones on measuring

We are going to the vet in another week for shots, etc. and I was going to point out his weakness then. He's really doing okay, no signs of pain or anything. He just gets fatigued - you can see him get a little "lamer" as he gets closer to the house. He will run after a squirrel or along the fence with the neighbor's dog but he doesn't last long - no where near like he used to before he went down. Just a short little run and then he lets his brother sprint after the squirrel.
