OK, guys. We are headed to a surgeon this morning with Coco Bear. I just can't stand to see her like this anymore and found a way to scrape the money together. Hopefully she's still a surgical candidate. Please say a prayer for her. I've heard really good things about this doc, so I'll let y'all know.

We are here to support you with either decision, conservative or surgery. We'll be waiting to here what the surgeon says. What is the name of the hospital?

We drove two hours to Groves, Texas to Wilcox Veterinary Clinic. He seems like a wonderful person who truly cares about our baby. He said she has an 85-90% chance of walking again and thinks her disc herniated out to the side. Coco will be having surgery in the next hour or so. I'll keep y'all posted. Please pray for my baby girl.
Apparently this didn't post earlier when I tried. That's OK cuz now I can give an update as well. Coco made it through surgery just fine and is in recovery. Doc removed a lot of disc material. She will get to come home Thursday!!

Thank you to everyone for the prayers. Coco is doing well today. The vet tech said she is able to stand on her hind legs for a short period. Hopefully she will get to come home tomorrow, but if not tomorrow Friday for sure. I trust her doc and know he is making decisions based on what she needs at this point. I feel so fortunate to have found him! I'll keep y'all posted as we progress through her recovery. I feel in my heart she will be fine.

We got our precious baby home this afternoon. She is doing very well. She is able to pee and poop on her own as well as stand for a few seconds on her back legs. Doc is very optimistic. She is still on Tramadol and he added Metacam as well for pain. She has eaten and drank since we got home as well as went potty. She seems pain-free and very glad to be home. I am soooooo impressed with her doctor. As a matter of fact, we have decided to take our other two dachsies to see him next week for their yearly check-ups on the same day we take Coco back to have her stitches removed. He seems to have a natural ability with her. There's something to be said about a doc whom your baby is totally relaxed around, and she definitely was with him. I can't say enough good things about him. Thank you all for the prayers, advice and encouragement. We still have a ways to to, but we WILL get there

Hi Michelle.
I am so glad you have your Coco Bear home after her surgery and she is doing well. I am concerned however about the Metacam, which is a NSAID (it isn't a pain reliever, it is an anti inflammatory) which should not be given while she is taking Prednisone, a steroid. There should be a washout of 4 to 7 days between those two drugs.. Can cause severe stomach problems.. Is she still on Pepcid and hopefully Sucralfate?
Any other changes to her medications? I am so happy your baby is home now and can recover with your tender loving care!!
Get some rest yourself... this has been a real roller coaster for you..
