original subject line: Trouble Finding Dogsitters for Incontinent DogI adopted my dachshund Bran three months after his IVDD episode, totally paralyzed and incontinent. (He was not a candidate for surgery.) We manage great with his cart and "expressing" him, but whenever we want to go on vacation, we don't have a dog sitter who knows how / is around enough to deal with his incontinence without a ton of accidents.I've called several boarding places, but the staff can't do it. You can't search on Rover for petsitters who are ok with incontinence. A few friends have tentatively offered, but I'm afraid they'll panic once it's time to do it. I also really worry that someone inexperienced with incontinence will squeeze Bran in the wrong place and hurt his organs. The wonderful rescue we adopted him from will do it, but they're pretty far away. We found another couple with a paralyzed dog, and we exchange pet sitting, but they're often busy/away. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there another thread somewhere on DL with some ideas? It would be really cool if there was some place IVDD owners could exchange services. Anyone else in NYC?

Have you tried checking at a nearby vet's? Maybe a vet tech could be hired.

Hi Sarah, I had a look online for you to see if I could help, from your online info it looks like you are in NY - I found a link to a pet sitter service and the link says the bronx in it so I'm assuming it's NY. PET SITTING FOR PETS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS: I have met many owners who are unable to find a pet sitter, that is comfortable or skilled in taking care of their pet with special needs. These owners, will not leave their pets (even overnight) and some have not been away or on vacation in years!! For example, I have tons of experience taking care of senior pets, pets that are diabetic who need insulin, giving subcutaneous fluids, bladder expression, administering all kinds of medication etc. It's a service called Dave's Dawgz and other pawz !! I'm sure he has references you can check. www.petsit.com/pet-sitter-bronx-ny-daves-dawgz-other-pawzHe is also on Facebook www.facebook.com/davesdawgzandotherpawz/If he can't help you he may know someone who can, best wishes Mary

We have a wonderful dog sitter. She took care of our two dogs before Spike had his surgery. She had never taken care of a special needs dog. I have given her lots of instructions and am pleased to say all has gone very well We come home today. I think anyone who truly cares for animals can easily be trained.
