Pooh is doing great. He is walking fine when out to potty. One more day of pred , no pain, he is back to his old self burying his ball and foosd in his crate and wanting to run and play with Spot his toy terrier brother. Of course we donot let him. Starting to shop for an xpen so he can spend more time outside, he love sunning himself.

Kathy this is great news. Be careful now letting him do too much. You don't want to undo all the great healing hes already done. Tough love. You've done a great job.

Hi today is a great day Pooh is off of all his meds and is doing great. It has been 3 weeks and he is back to my old Pooh doggie. Now we just have to get though 5 more weeks of crate rest!!! I am so glad he is doing well. Walking only when he goes out to do his buisness he is crated the rest of the time. I have to use Serenity essential oil to calm him down but that does the trick. Thank you so much for Dogerslist and all your help. I will spread the word this site was so much of a help to me.

What Paula said is exactly what you need do do if he is fussing between potty breaks. The whole key is to ignore behaviors that you don't want and reward the you do. I know its frustrating in the night when they are fussy but you have to be firm with ignoring him. He still has a way to go and will get used to it in time. You may want to try a natural relaxer like Rescue Remedy. That may help to calm him. Also if you haven't already you could put an article of your clothing in his crate. Your scent will help calm him too. Another thing you can do is spray a little lavender on the underside of his bed. It has relaxing qualities to it also. good luck. I hope you can sleep soon.

I haved used lavender on his bed. He is good with th e crate as long as he is in the same room with us. Only when we leave the room does he get fussy or when he has to go potty. We have been giving him rescue remedy and it does help him relax. I am also changing him to a more natural dog food. I have found merik at the local pet store and he really likes it and is having no problems with the change.

That's great. Merrick is a wonderful food. We feed Merrick also. I am such a huge advocate for what people feed. Lol. I'm a dog trainer/behaviorist so I'm always talking with clients about what they feed. Believe it or not it plays a big role in behavior. What were you feeding prior? I'm glad to hear Pooh is doing better with his relaxation. Keep up the great work!

Prior to the merrik we were feeding him kibble ans bits and nutro max for small breads. I am glad i have found out more about dog foods. I did not know there was such a difference.

Yeah, there is a difference. My rule of thumb is that if you can buy it in a grocery store its really not good for your dog. Too many commercial brands like Purina, pedigree, Iams, Hills, I could go on. Use corn as the first ingredient. Corn is sugar! Since when did dogs eat corn?? Chickens eat corn! If you think about it basically the only grains in a wild dogs diet is that of the digestive tract of what it eats. Although we have domesticated dogs their nutritional needs have not changed. A great site to see where your food rates is dogfoodadvisor.com. How has Pooh been doing?

Hi jochs311, Pooh is doing great. Off all meds, no pain, walking good when out to potty. We are on week 4 of crate rest, just 4 more weeks to go. He can't wait to play with his little brother spot again. He keeps trying to sneak out of the crate when i am petting him. Lol.

Pooh is doing GREAT!!! We are almost through week 4 Half way there. I am going to try the kong with peanut butter to help with his being bored. We really have to watch him now when he is out to potty as he wants to take a walk or try to run. He is doing well on crate rest. Going to try to upload a picture of Pooh tomorrow. This has been the best place for support and help with Pooh doggie.

I have not been successful in uploading a pic. I will keep triyng. 27 days to go!!!! This is such a great site IVDD is so scary in the beginning especially when you don't know what to do or how to help you furbaby and are relying on the vet. You are so right self education is the key. Pooh will be back to a new normal in just a few more weeks. No steps, no flying, no jumping. The floor is the best place for him. I have set up a people/doggie den on the floor for us. So glad you were here for us.

Pooh was a bad doggie today. He slipped his harness when dad had him out to potty. I tightened his harness a bit. Stubborn little weenie. He is back to his old tricks. Thank goodness no harm was done.

A kong stuffed full of peanut butter would be too many calories. Try mixing in kibble, or strips of carrots, chunks of banana, things like that. I use the peanut butter like mortar to hold all the lower calorie goodies inside.

Great idea Pollysmom I was just stuffing his kong with dogbutter, it is a peanut type butter for dogs. I will try just using it as mortar. He needs some way to use up some of his energy. Anyone have any othesuggestions.es

Does Pooh know the touch trick? If not you can get a target stick and a clicker and teach the touch trick in his crate. Mental excersizes are very effective in getting energy out

Thank you Jochs311 I will try some mental games wit him. Yesterday he was climbing up his crate with his front paws scared Daddy half to death. He is back to 100 percent. Just a few more weeks. It is so hard to keep him resting any more.He tore his bed to shreads also so now he just has his blanket in his crate.

check out the two tips on our supplies list for keeping them from climbing up on the side of the crate. www.dodgerslist.com/literature/cratesupplies.htmAs long as Pooh can remain quiet during the mental games they are a good idea, if he can't then you will need to stop them. The whole focus is right now is on letting the disc finish healing.

Thank you Paula for the link on how to stop him climbing on the crate. I am going to try the blanket over his crate. I gave him a chew bone today and he layed down and chewed on it. He is a very ornery pooch.

Hi all here is an update on Pooh. He continues to be his old self. He is really sick if his crate. I gave him a chew bone and he lays down and chews but he really wants to run when he is out to potty. He and Daddy have talk in the way out to potty everytime. He just wants out to play with his Toy terrier brother spot so badly. Just one more week I keep telling him. We can and will do it. I bought him a graduation tag for his harness. We can not wait . Still have to get material for the furniture blockers i made. Thank you all for your support.

That's wonderful, Kathy! Congratulations on doing the very best for Pooh and crating him for the full 8 weeks. Just take it nice and slow to give Pooh's muscles a chance to gradually build up. Wishing you smooth sailing from here on.
