If I could turn back the clock, I would have never started allowing the dogs on the couch! Although my house is more dachshund friendly than it is people friendly. I have baby gates blocking stairs and doorways to the outside (in case of an attempted escape) and I have 2 memory foam ramps to all pieces of furniture and a nice long ramp to the bed. I have an outdoor ramp for the 2 stairs that lead to the patio and a small fence around the retaining wall so they can't get up and launch off of it. They are also contained in the kitchen with gates when I am not home. There are no stairs or anything in the kitchen for them to get hurt on. just their water bowls and some comfy dog beds!! Unfortunately all of these precautionary measures didn't save Pete from rupturing his cervical spine........ It's very frustrating because you try and do everything to keep them safe and then they end up hurt anyway. We are definitely going to work on impulse control though. Maybe with clicker training. But once he is integrated back into the pack, I plan on still having him leashed at all times while outside so he can't just take off after birds and squirrels and falling pine cones. (his favorite thing in the world is sitting in the back yard on a windy day and chasing every pine cone that drops from the trees! Lol!)
Here is the other info from your post. I couldn't figure out where you wanted me to post it so I just added it here. Sorry, I'm still trying to figure this site out
State: Washington Hospital: Veterinary Surgical Specialists
Address:33 E. Mission Ave., Spokane www.vssspokane.com
Cost: $3,200
Date of surgery:11/16
What was included in cost (MRI?, days stay, ER? PT? meds for home, sling, etc.) CT Scan, Surgery, two days and 2 nights in ICU, pain meds and steroids, the follow up appointment and suture removal.
Comments: I really liked this vet and I think they treated Pete very well! They are more expensive than some of the other vets in the area but they specialize in this type of surgery. I feel the extra money was worth it. I also have a friend that works there so she sent me pics of the whole procedure and sent me progress photos twice a day til he came home! Lol!
