Thanks; I think i have read the info at least ten times by now. I am wondering if i can adjust it a little as she has been able to stand and move around in her suite for the past 6 weeks, so she is not really weak, nor did she gain any weight?

Happy Graduation day Bonnie and Devon! I am glad everything is going well for Bonnie and that you are well prepared for life after crate rest! Please stick around and help the newbies just starting this journey. They can use the inspiration of our graduates..

I need some recommendations for dog socks or boots for hard floor traction please? Bonnie is doing well outside but not on the hard floor.

We got grippy socks for Stevie and they did work, but the sock would twist on her foot and then be slippery. We are now using toe grips and they work really well on our hardwood and tile floors (now that I have figured out how to get them on right) The rehab lady said that booties work but you have to really watch out for sweaty feet leading to fungal and other infections - I guess that people would put them on and leave them on. Hope this helps

We have completed week one of Bonnie's rehab and she is doing well, every day she is stronger and has more balance. Her gripper socks will be here on Monday so then she can do the hard floors with more confidence. Her only problem are her laziness to go for her little walks and making sure that our younger Tzu doesn't attack/play with her. It makes me feel like such a mean Mom not letting the younger one play with her. Is walking enough to strengthen her core muscles?

Moseying around the backyard is not likely to strength core muscles. Building her incrementally up to quick paced walks eventually to a mile can be excellent exercise. Swimming is another good exercise.

Devon, you would build up incrementally. Maybe a brisk walk to end of street and back for a few days. Then move the goal post up a bit every week..just like an athlete in training. The reason to go slow is after being on restricted movement for so many weeks, you do not want Bonnie to get sore and be reluctant to move You want to know for sure why a dog would be sore and not confuse overdoing things with possibly another disc problem. This page may offer you some concepts to help you with your incremental buildup.

Bonnie continues to regain her strength and balance. The gripper socks really help on the floors. She did her first fast walk down the street and back tonight and did fine. I think the post crate rest is harder on me emotionally than when she was restricted, I worry she will slip etc. Getting used to the new normal takes time for her and for me. It is like having a toddler in the house! We'll get there, one day at a time.

Hi Devon, The worry is natural, I went through it along with many others. Totally understand how you are feeling now that Bonnie is off crate rest and resuming her new normal life.. Yes indeed, one day at a time. The worry is there along with the fear of something happening. We do the best we can to prevent problems and try to live as normally as possible otherwise, keeping an eye on our furbabies.. Glad the gripper socks are working for Bonnie and her walk up the street went well..

Just a quick update; today i took down Bonnie's recovery suite as she is doing so well; walks, runs, manages the hard floors without her gripper socks. I am not as nervous about her now that the transition phase is over. Thanks Dodger's list!!!
