Bailey has been doing fine but this morning she woke up went out to pee and poo and then went into slow motion and kind of looking in pain so I ran to get her tramadol and gave her half a pill and I realized her neck was twitching which it has never done before. After about ten minutes the twitching stopped and she basically laid next to me all day. ( I worked at home today). Then she wanted out so at 5pm I carried her out and she pooed just fine but then seemed to sit down to pee and she did this three times and I don't think she peed. I then picked her up and put her down and she could walk just fine but slowlyand she shook her body and somewhere the neck spasms started again and have now stopped after about 15 minutes of palpable spasm. She has never had a cervical issue. I am scared. Any ideas?

She just walked herself out and did pee. Does that change your reply?

I would suggest crating Bailey now and contacting your vet ASAP. Medicating without vet input might not be a good idea. This could be the start of a new episode --- the neck spasms are telling you something. Better safe than not ...

Does she still seem to be twitching or having cervical spasms? Glad she waked out to pee but the cervical symptoms are very concerning. Does she have a fever?? Please get her to the Vet..

No fever.. The spasms came back after she peed just a little bit then stopped they happen in her throat area to the left over her shoulder and they feel like muscle spasms

She needs to be back on medications for pain and muscle spasms at the very least but should be seen by the vet to verify what is going on especially since her previous IVDD episode wasn't cervical. I know how scared you are please follow your instincts and have dear Bailey seen by a Vet..

Pauliana thank you so much. The spasms are completely gone she ate and drank and now wants to sleep no spasms. I am taking her first thing in the morning because my gut knows the spasms will be returning. My little girl is such a cooperative little trooper. I always say she gets an A-plus for being so on-board with everything we do with her.

Glad to hear you will be getting her to the vet. Might want to lay off the Tramadol until he examines her. It could cover up what is going on or at least ask the vet before you go what they prefer. Muscle spasms are very common with cervical. We have a very good article you might want to read to familiarize yourself in event this is what is happening. www.dodgerslist.com/literature/cervical.htmLet us know after you see the vet.

The x-rays showed nothing, and the vet prescribed methocarbamol and gabapentin, and told me to watch her closely, and crate rest. The spasms have stopped and she is asleep, she eats and drinks and this morning pooed and peed. This morning before the meds, she walked fine but gingerly, and pooed and peed. I am observing her and am keeping in touch with the vet (who is awesome by the way).

I am so glad that Bailey is home and resting comfortably and best of all no spasms. What are the dosages of her current medications and the times they are to be given, please?
Sending healing wishes over the miles...

Thanks Pauliana. Methcarbamol is one quarter of a 500 mg pill every eight hours. The gabapentin is one 100mg capsule per day. Right now Bailey is acting like NOTHING EVER HAPPENED yesterday, and no spasms. I am taking her back to the vet for a follow up on Saturday. These meds are amazing!
