Hello. My Pixie is 8 months post-surgery and is still paralyzed. She has a cart that she gets around great in. Lately, however, I notice that when she sleeps, she jerks her upper body and seems to be having some sort of spasms. Our PT seems to think it is from over-use of her upper body muscles and that she is experiencing some muscle soreness. Is this common in dogs that are paralyzed?

Hi! Welcome to Dodger'sList! I'm Sabrina - what's your name? And what was the date of Pixie's surgery?
Are you noticing any signs of muscle soreness / pain when Pixie is awake? --- Signs of pain are holding the head in an unusual position...head held high or nose to the ground, shivering/trembling, not wanting to move much or moving gingerly, yelping, tight/tense stomach muscles, holding leg up flamingo style...not wanting to bear weight on the leg, just not their usual perky-interested-in-life self.
If you haven't already - do you have a way to take a video of one of these episodes that you could show to your vet/PT?
Do these spasms happen: --- every time she sleeps/naps? --- at a specific point (eg, 15min after falling asleep, etc)
How long do the spasms last?
I hope with some more details, folks will have some advice for you! (We love details at Dodger'sList - so don't hesitate to include as many as you can!) ))Hugs!((
