Hello, You all were such an amazing help when Ripley went down last July. She graduated from conservative treatment and was back to her old self until 3/26. She is in severe pain, but has all her functions and can stand - although we immediately put her on strict crate rest. We called the vet and she put Ripley on all the meds as last time (prednisone, tramadol, methocarbmol and famotidine I am at work and don't have the mg will post asap). She seemed to be feeling better until this morning at 3 am, she was in so much pain. I gave her the pain and muscle relaxer a little early (at 6 hours not 8) and I called the doctor the minute they opened to see if they can add something to help with the pain but have not heard back. (this has frustrated me greatly, as the Dr. is very caring and normally calls us back quickly this has not been the case today)
I am scared - even though she has all mobility this time she is in so much more pain - I am worried. The closest emergency vet is in Pensacola. I called them and asked many questions. If we take her she will have to wait see a doctor that specializes in IVDD surgeries but he won't be in until Monday. Should I take her now or continue to keep her comfortable and confined in her crate until Monday. My husband and I are taking turns staying with her and keeping her comfortable.
Thank you Kira
I am sorry Ripley is a female doxie that is almost 4.

Hi Kira, sorry to hear Ripley is having another IVDD episode. If Ripley is in pain, it needs to be addressed now, especially since from what you are describing, she is in severe pain. Please take her to the vet where they can administer an opiate pain injection for immediate relief. You may ask if they could add gabapentin in with her others meds at home. It is always advisable to have a Board Certified neurologist or orthopedist evaluate her, especially if her pain cannot be controlled by meds. If that is the case, surgery may be necessary. If finances are an issue, apply for Care Credit - they offer no-interest or low-interest loans for veterinary costs. www.carecredit.com/faqs.html Please let us know that you have taken her to the vet for pain relief. Best wishes, ~Lisa

sorry I have not responded sooner but we took her straight to the emergency vet in Pensacola Friday afternoon they gave her pain killers via IV and got the pain under control and I was able to bring her home Sunday morning. She is definitely improving and I will give you updates. thank you for your help!
