Abby has been healthy for a year now in terms of her back, so she was weaned off her medications last summer. Recently, she had a muscle injury and two teeth removed within days of each other, so the vet put her back on Metacam to help reduce inflammation for both. He told me today that I could stop giving her Metacam cold turkey (she has no signs of pain). I'm nervous because she has always been weaned off it in the past. Does anyone have experience with just stopping it? Thanks.

Hi Abby,
Metacam doesn't have to be tapered. It is Steroids that have to be tapered or weaned because the body needs to get the signal to start making it's own steroid hormone again..

Thank you! I just needed some reassurance that I was doing the right thing.
