Cindy, we are always heartened to hear our support has been helpful. But the reality is it is YOU who is doing the important work. So, kudos to you for your commitment to 100% STRICT crate rest. We want to reach any dog owner going through a disc problem. If you Tweet or have Facebook please help us to spread the word about our Webpage and this Forum www.dodgerslist.com We can also use help in sharing our educational literature. I keep the business sized cards on me to hand out at the post office, waiting in line at the grocery store, sitting at the dentist office.... you just never know when you'll strike up a conservation with the owner of an iVDD prone breed... short legged and small breed. Here's the link to get your packet of FREE literature...... it is a good feeling to know YOU may have saved a dog from unnecessary pain or loss of life. Go here today and tell Linda to send you a packet: www.dodgerslist.com/literature/litorder.htm

It now has been three weeks since this journey with Sophie began. She continues to get better every new day. She will begin every other day on her 5 mg of prednisone and continues to take the pepcid and the stool softner. She also takes composure in the evenings to help her relax when it is time to go to bed. She will be going to her 6th Laser Therapy this morning and will be evaluated. We are looking at taking her to a holistic vet to discuss acupuncture next week. She has no pain and is exhibiting her "normal" LOL Sophie traits. She barks at the doorbell and everything else, is eating well and wants more and would love to take off running in the backyard if we would let her. Our prayer is for her continued healing 5 more weeks! Once again thank you everyone for your support. Don't know what I would have done without it! I talk to everyone about you and this forum and the conservative option AND most importantly about being a strong advocate for you pet!

Hello Illinois neighbors! We got our oldest Doxie (out of 3) in Oswego. His name is Vinnie. He went down real fast about a year and a half ago. Had surgery at VCA in aurora. We were referred there out of Dundee Animal Hospital. Vinnie is a paraplegic who has no bladder control. But, he is w/o pain and doesn't let too much hold him back. We are on our 2nd wheelchair, an Eddies wheels and just love it. Waiting for some good weather so we can go for walks. About 2 weeks ago out second boy started showing signs of back issues. We were on it like flies on poop! He is on cage rest and Hitch is off meds and pretty much is normal self. Hoping our third fur baby, Bela, will avoid all this!

Going into our 5th week of 100% crate rest with Miss Sophie. She is now on 5mg of prednisone every other day. She also continues to take her pepcid and stool softner. She is doing Laser Therapy once a week. Her right side is getting stronger and she walks with just a little limp. We are feeling blessed that she continues to get better every new day! She has no pain and is exhibiting her "normal" LOL Sophie traits. She barks at the doorbell, she barks for more attention and barks at everything else, is eating well and barks for more food. She is barking to get out of her crate as I right this. We are celebrating the half way mark and pray for continued healing. Thank you for your continued support and prayers. blessings, Cindy & Sophie

Cindy, thanks for the update on Sophie! You are both doing great!! That is good news that she is remaining pain-free while on the taper of prednisone. This means the prednisone is doing its job of controlling inflammation on the spine.
Please do continue with the strict crate rest so that her disc can fully heal. Laser is excellent for reducing inflammation and generating nerve healing. You should be very proud of yourself for the wonderful care you're giving Sophie.
We look forward to your next update. Best wishes, ~Lisa

6th week of 100% crate rest, here we come. Sophie is down to 5mg prednisone every third day and the pepcid. She does her laser therapy once a week. She is doing great and voices her opinion on wanting to be out of the crate. We keep her in, but definitely a challenge some days. She is getting stronger every new day and we pray for continued recovery!

Hi Cindy, glad to hear Sophie is doing well! As crate rest is nearing to an end, be sure to have your home safeguarded for the IVDD dog: www.dodgerslist.com/literature/protectback.htm Also, here is a link to help you slowly reintroduce Sophie into activities after crate rest: www.dodgerslist.com/literature/AfterCrateRest.htm Monthly (or every 2 or 3 months) laser or acupuncture are great ways to help keep inflammation at bay, if it is within your budget. You've done a great job with Sophie. We look forward to hearing about her graduation from crate rest! Best wishes, ~Lisa
