HI everyone
we had to have surgery for a ruptured disc on our 2.5 year old Beagle mix in Oct 2013, since then she is doing great yeah she gets tired easier and sure she walks wobbly but she is happy
my question we are looking at a new addition to our family at the humane society, the dog we are looking at is a 3 year old that listens very well and seems low energy so far is it a good idea to bring another dog in to our family, we are so scared to let our little girl do anything that may hurt her
BTW what should we really be scared to let our dog do, she loves to run but it scares the heck out of us
Thanks Ron

Hi Ron, welcome to Dodgerslist! I would tend to be cautious about adding another dog until you know how they would interact together.. What is your dog's name? A dog with IVDD is vulnerable in the eyes of other dogs.. When a dog is sick or injured or weak in some way other dogs will pick up on that and can possibly attack.. Not all dogs will do this but it is a possibility for you to be aware of.. It is normal instinctive pack behavior. If you do get the other dog, never leave them alone unsupervised.. It's hard to say they may be perfect together. If it's a low energy dog and they get along, it may be ok, but I would definitely take precautions when you aren't home by keeping them separate.. As far as what your dog can't or shouldn't do, here's an article that explains: www.dodgerslist.com/literature/protectback.htmBest wishes!

HI and thanks for the response, our dogs name is Coquette
we picked a dog up from the humane society today, we took them to neutral ground tonight to see them interact in public
at the store they both met and sniffed and everything was fine "UNTIL" they both went to say hi to a store employee, he reached his hand out and both dogs were sniffing his hand when the new dog grabbed our little one by the face
we are so bummed out we had met with this dog at the shelter twice and the dog was so wonderful
the new dog has lots of training and i think she was never socialized and is very dominant to my dog

Hi Ron, I would think twice about having that dog since he is agressive towards Coquette. She would always be in danger and she does not need that along with having IVDD. I hope he didn't hurt her face. Sorry to hear about what happened. That's what I was afraid of..
