My dauchshund, Emmy lost use of her back legs August 2013. Surgery was not an option due to money so we did the medication/crate rest. Well she isn't in pain now and she still does not have use of her back legs. She eats and drinks good. She also voids good. I've been praying and hoping she would get her back legs back but it's not looking like she will. I am now trying to get enough money together to get her a wheelchair. She's still my same happy, energetic and bossy girl which I'm very grateful for. :-)

Nerves can take a long time to heal so I wouldn't give up hope yet. Can she wag her tail when spoken to in a happy voice or given a treat? Does she have bladder control? Did she ever lose either the tail wag or the bladder control at the beginning (so has shown signs of improvement since August)? My Jeremy had surgery and even with the surgery, it was months before he had any movement in his legs at all and a good 6 months before he could walk. I was sure he would be in a cart for the rest of his life but he left it behind. So Emmy may still start moving those legs one day. But as you can see, she's still the same happy girl she always was and that's the most important thing! You may have already chosen the cart you'd like for Emmy but if not, here are some recommendations of what to look for: www.dodgerslist.com/links/cart.htmYou'll also see a link on that page for Dogs to Go where they offer customized carts for under $100. Please keep us updated on how she adjusts to the cart and her status.
