Hello everyone! Just wondering if anyone could help with some peace of mind. Romeo has just undergone his 3rd back surgery. Prior to the surgery he had deep pain sensation. After the surgery the doctor was pleased and was very optimistic. It's 2 days later and he's still has not regained any deep pain sensation. In the 2 prior surgeries, he regained it right away and was quicker in recovery. He's only 5, do you think we should be alarmed that there's no deep pain 2 days post surgery?

Hi, Becky. Please put your mind at rest and know that it's not unusual for neuro functions to worsen after surgery. It takes 2-4 weeks for the swelling to resolve after surgery. Until then, the swelling is pressing on the nerves and they just aren't connecting properly. Each disc episode is different. In one, you may see immediate improvement and the next it may take quite a bit longer.
As this is Romeo's third surgery, I'm sure you're well aware of what to expect on discharge day. Please let us know what meds and instructions for PT and crate rest Romeo is given upon discharge. We'll be here to help support you through Romeo's recovery.
Prayers for a complete and speedy recovery for Romeo.
