What does everyone do for going away? Ideally take them with you. But im starting to see that when you cant it is very hard to figure out what to do. My mom has a dachshund and she is willing to watch my 2 (one with IVDD 3 months post surgery) but it was much easier before THIS happened. Our house now has ramps to the bed, a doggie door and ramp to outside, furniture blockers, and a futon mattress on the floor where we sit. But, my mom does not have this. She is absolutely capable of watching them its just hard. My vent for now!!! Thanks for listening. Any comments feel free!!! Love Lil Girls mom.

There are alot of AHTs ( Vet Techs) that house and pet sit - check with your local Vet, maybe they have staff that are willing to come and stay. We don't go away much because it is hard to find someone that we trust absolutely to care for the dogs and birds

Our options have changed, for sure. We used to often leave Lupi with our friends who have a Doxie too. Now I'm nervous to do that because Lupi and Wookie (their Doxie) love to play and I'm afraid she'll get hurt again. Same goes for my BIL, and anyone else with a dog. My MIL also used to enjoy having her, but she lives in a basement suite, and would have to carry Lupi up and down stairs now. I worry about that, because my MIL had foot surgery and her balance isn't as good as it was. My Mom has a good situation-few steps and no other animals, but she travels a lot so won't always be available. We're leaving for Mexico on the 23rd (Lupi's graduation day) and I have my step-sister coming to stay at our place while we're gone. I'm going to get a little ramp so Lupi can walk down the back steps outside, because now that it's slippery out, it's a bit scary carrying her. I've slipped a couple of times while carrying her myself. I'm going to laminate an instruction list in case she has another episode while we're away.
