Poor Peanut did have bacteria in urine (antibiotics) but also high level of sugar. Vet suspects diabetes. We’re headed there tomorrow for more testing. After one dose of the antibiotic tonight he got crosseyed again (like he did when I over sedated him a few months ago).

Poor little guy, he's having such a hard time.
The good news is if it's diabetes you've caught it early and it's manageable.
Sending positive thoughts and prayers to you both.

Sugar level was very elevated, but the fructosamine test was normal. Possible steroid induced temporary diabetes is suspected. Will redo blood test in 14 days. Changed antibiotics for UTI. He’s pretty much back to normal now. ****** he’s lost 5 POUNDS since surgery ****** Vets & Physical Therapist wanted a 9 pound loss. We’re well on the way. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I am very happy to hear he is almost back to normal.
The glucose sometimes goes down when the steroids stop. Let's hope that is the case with Peanut.
What antibiotic is he taking now?

Need more advice!!!! Last night Peanuts third eyelid came out with big gooey eye goobers. Took him to the Vet today. She said it was from 1) an unknown cause, 2) diabetes or 3) an autoimmune disease. She gave me drops & ointment after he failed the tear production test.Next Monday he was already scheduled for more diabetes testing. Is it just me, or is it quite coincidental if it’s an autoimmune issue?? If tests come back without answers, I’ll schedule him with an animal Ophthalmologist near Lansing where we took a different dog. Any advice? Feeling defeated. He had been on Bactrim, & has 3 doses left. Barb

Barb, glad you saw a vet for the issue and if need be seeking a specialist (Ophthalmologist)! Here we just know one disease where we are comfortable in commenting on.
Hope the drops and ointment will give your little Peanut good relief.

Do you see many dogs getting Horner’s Syndrome during back injuries/spinal cord? That’s another possibility.... I have a call into his Neurologist.

Neurologist said not surgery related. Guess we’ll see what more sugar testing reveals on Monday.

Confirmed diabetes. Started insulin tonight. His urine results were 500+, blood was 400+ after 3 hours. Hoping for relief soon, and his eyes go back to normal. Poor guy has had a rough summer!!!!

10 weeks post surgery. Peanut is doing great!!! His insulin is being adjusted. But he acts like a puppy again between the back surgery and diabetes somewhat controlled. I appreciate all the advice I’ve been given here!!!! This site is a life saver.
