Krista, do keep with the principals of "conservative treatment" limited movement until he goes into Red Bank Wednesday 8/25 for surgery.
Did Red Bank indicate you should continue taper doses of Prednisone with the increased neuro decline you are seeing?
As you learn more as the surgery proceeds, do keep us updated. Fingers crossed for a good surgical outcome of peace of mind for you and pain free for your sweet Sully.

Thank you so much! I will certainly keep you all posted. I personally have some peace of mind to have decided on the surgical route although something was telling me not to about a week ago. It is invasive and expensive... and I am so sad thinking of him at the hospital for a few days recovering (athough I trust he will be very safe with their team). Given his quick decline after tapering, I think it is what we need to do if we want to ensure the best shot for a partial or hopefully (one day) full recovery. And for my sanity, as well... I don't know how I would handle putting him back on prednisone and tapering again if he showed another decline!
I still do believe he could have recovered if we decided to go back on the prednisone and remain conservative. I just came home and he was standing up on his own. Lol. Ugh. Still nowhere close to where he was before tapering.
I am certainly keeping him fully cage rested until then! Hoping for the best outcome but preparing myself for the worst. In the back of my mind, there's always been a small concern that we don't even know if there is something more wrong that only an MRI will tell us (god forbid!). For us, it will be best to have a full picture.
He hasn't been moving much today except to switch positions here and there / just caught him standing, as mentioned (knuckled hind legs but stood himself). Did drink water but minimal food. Has gone poddy (pooped 1x and peed earlier today outside). Hoping the day stays as quiet as possible with him before tomorrow's surgery.
I did let the neuro specialist know I did NOT continue the taper and gave him the 5mg pred [8/24] last night, this morning and will be giving him 1x tonight. They said he can take his meds tonight but no food after midnight. Will be taking him in first thing in AM.
Thank you so much. I don't know what I would have done without this forum and your guidance!! I will pay it forward somehow! I'll be back in touch after the surgery! Have a good one.
