☆ 4 What breed? What is your dog’s name? Your name, too?
My dogs name is Dany. She is a 6 year old yorkie/cavalier mix. My name is Jordan.
☆ 5 Did you specifically get a diagnosis of IVDD, aka: a disc problem, a disc herniation, a bulging disc, slipped disc?
Yes, she started acting weird on Friday two weeks ago. I took her to her normal vet first thing the next morning. She was showing no specific symptoms but reluctant to go down stairs and was in pain. She was mistakenly diagnosed with a UTI. We went home. By midnight that night she wasn’t able to use her back legs fully. Took her to another vet the next morning where she was diagnosed with IVDD. At the time she could still stand, walk wobbly, and had deep pain but could not pee on her own. We brought her back for a recheck later that day and as her condition was not improving the vet recommended taking her to the vet university neurology center. She was admitted and diagnosed with extrusion of disc material extending from
T10-12. They performed a left-sided T10-12 hemilaminectomy on 2/22/2021 to remove the compressive disc material. She never had any history of back problems and was very active up until this point.
-- Is the vet a general DVM or a specialist surgeon: ACVIM neurology or ACVS ortho?
ACVIM neurology☆ 6 What was the date you saw the vet for CONSERVATIVE treatment?
or date of SURGERY?
Hemilaminectomy on 2/22/21
--SURGICAL dogs will follow surgeon's directives for rest & PT during post-op rest as the offending disc material was removed.
-- How many weeks did your surgeon direct for post-op rest?
4 weeks strict crate rest
-- What did your surgeon direct for clinic or at home PT?
Did not mention any PT.
☆ 7 Can your dog specifically sniff and squat and then release urine
When I first brought her home she was peeing constantly. Waking up soaked in her urine. I would take her at least once an hour but she wouldn’t go outside. I immediately contacted the neurology department who said that it was likely because of the steroid and that things should return to normal afterwards. At the time I was glad she was peeing at all considering she want able to when this first started. But the more I read the more I got concerned about her bladder not emptying properly despite how much she was peeing. She has tried to squat and pee several times outside but can’t really squat and seems to get confused even with the sling.
I took her to my regular vet yesterday 3/5 and she prescribed Proin to try and help her regain control. I suspected a UTI because she had some discharge. The vet gave antibiotics. Started them last night but even after that she
has started to pee blood. I am taking her to the vet this morning for them to examine her.
☆ 8 Currently can your dog wobbly walk?
She can stand and
take a few steps but
drags one leg. She has tried to scratch herself with her back legs several times. I’ve seen her tail wag three times but it’s not on a regular basis.
I’m glad to have found this page. This dog is my whole world and this has been one of the worst experiences on my life.
