[Original subject line:Gracie Mae's 2nd IVDD Surgery ] Hello! I'm Julia and Gracie Mae is my precious mini doxie! She is 5 years old, weighs almost 10 lbs and just had her 2nd spinal surgery 6 weeks ago. She was diagnosed with IVDD 7 months ago, leading to her 1st spinal surgery and here we are again repeating the recovery process. It has been difficult to get a clear understanding of IVDD and the surgical procedures especially during Covid. Each time I sat in the parking lot waiting for the call with the MRI results - very little explanation/no visuals. Gracie has been a worrier each time & has again made tremendous progress. I do have so many questions that I can't find answers to....even at the veterinarian's office. Questions about the best products, reoccurrence, how should she be walked, will she always have a hump in her back, etc. I don't know any other pet owners that have been through this & so here I am Gracie visits the Neurologist Monday for her follow up & I am hoping for all positive news as well as some answers.

Welcome Julie! It is wonderful that you are wanting to learn about the disease Gracie was born with. Owner knowledge of IVDD is really the key to fighting the IVDD enemy and winning! The Forum is a branch of the main Dodgerslist website. Here you can ask questions, we can offer information specific to Gracie's needs. On the main Dodgerslist website you will find a valuable treasure trove of information to bring you up to speed on IVDD and to live many happy years ahead. Let me point you to an excellent overview of IVDD, you may even find answers to questions that have not yet popped into your head. This information may be handy to have under your belt with the Monday neuro appt. LINK: dodgerslist.com/2020/06/26/time-and-ivdd/While on the website you can use the orange search bar top of the page to locate other things of interest to you. At the Dodgerslist Neuro Corner Neuro surgeon Dr. Isaacs has an answer for your question about the humped back after a surgery: dodgerslist.com/2020/06/18/arched-back The more we know about Gracie, the better to provide specifics that relate just to Gracie. Would you fill us in: QUESTIONS ☀︎5-- What did your surgeon direct for PT (always a supervised, eye-ball to eyeball controlled therapy)? ☀︎6-- How many weeks did the surgeon want for crate rest including his directives for supervised and controlled PT? ☀︎7--At this point do you observe any - shivering, trembling, yelping when picked up or moved, reluctant/slow to move head or body, tight hard tummy? ☀︎8-- Please list any meds currently given, their doses in mgs and how often you give? ☀︎9-- Tell us where she is in her neuro functions. Currently can your dog wobbly walk? Or does she need a sling to support back legs on walks? have the ability to right paw(s) knuckled under? move the legs at all? or wag the tail when you do some happy talk? ☀︎10-- Do you find wet bedding or leaks on you when lifted up and the need to express the bladder? OR does she have bladder control ☀︎11-- Eating and drinking OK? Poops OK - normal color no dark or bright red blood? Look forward to learning more details about your Gracie as well as what kinds of products you are interested in knowing about.
