Gerty, welcome to the Forum! Sounds like some very positive neurological repairs are taking place (wags tails, some leg movement). This bodes well for the body to self repair even more nerve funcitions. Did you get a hands-on-top-of-your-hands type of expressing lesson by the Surgeon? Also good to re-review the video and tips. And if you need to, go back to your own vet or the surgical vet. There YOU can express and then have the vet tech check your work and give more pointers. Video for expressing for both urine and for poop: dodgerslist.com/2020/05/05/bladder-bowel-care/ When first learning expect to express urine ever6 2-3 hrs. Then as you get more expert in feeling the bladder and knowing it is pretty empty, you will move up to 3-4 hrs and then the usual of every 6-8 hrs. Let us know how often you have been expressing. Whether the surgeon gave you a lesson on discharge day?Dog's to the unexpected in a blink of an eye. Best is to have Vinney in his recovery suite. Put in on a sturdy coffee table and pull it right up to the couch to be near each other. Suites never slope like couch cushions can, Vinney can't impulsively try to jump down or dart of at the TV door bell, etc when in his recovery suite. Protect him after such a major surgery.
