Stephanie, welcome to the Forum! It appears your Percy has a pain emergency because his meds are under medicated to do the proper job of pain relief with all the red flag signs of pain you listed that you are currently seeing. Advocate ASAP Mon morn with your family DVM vet for all pain meds to be prescribed for PROMPTLY every 8 hours. This allows the level of meds to remain consistent round the clock, dose to right up to the next dose. -- TRAMADOL you should be dosing as per the RX at the every 8 hrs mark, promptly. Have you been doing so since 9/1? Let us know if you were not, that starting tonight you are.
-- gabapentin- Advocate on the phone with your family vet that the RX be changed to every 8 hours. -- methocarbamol. Advocate with your family vet to cover the pain due to muscle contraction pain at promptly every 8 hrs. Did your vet say it is a neck disc?
-- PEPCID AC Take no chances with bleeding ulcers. Ask specifically if Percy has any health issue he may not take Pepcid AC (famotidine). Doesn't need it. wait til there are symptoms are not an answer. If no health issues go to grocery store for Pepcid AC with one active ingredient FAMOTIDINE. 10 mgs every 12 hours for Percy.QUESTIONSTramadol: Which had you been dosing every 8 hrs or 12? Which leg does he hold up the front or the back?Did your vet say it is a neck disc? For how many days is Percy to Deracoxib? Is the whole table 25mgs? and you give half @ 12.5mgs?EDUCATION IS KEY Percy can be a good candidate for conservative treatment with an IVDD saavy pet parent.
1) Start your education over at the main Dodgerslist website by understanding the meds used with IVDD to be able to best discuss and advocate for Percy. dodgerslist.com/2020/05/30/pain-medications/
2) Get the tools and tips to make the strict rest period go smoother; dodgerslist.com/2020/05/14/strict-rest-recovery-process/ 3) Be “in the know” how long each the 4 phases of healing is expected to take. What treatments for which phase? Down load and print out the ROADMAP to avoid dangerous detours with the Conservative treatment. VIEW, DOWNLOAD and print: dodgerslist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Roadmap-for-Fridge.pdfHere is what the RoadMap will look like taped to your fridge **
